Mary Anne Hughes (born 1826 Manchester) and lookup request.

Recently I have been doing research on my maternal line ancestor Mary Anne Hughes and her parents. She was born c. 1826 in Manchester, daughter of Daniel Hughes and Rosannah Collins and was Catholic. Her profile and those of her parents describe my findings thus far.

1. I lack a baptism record for Mary Anne. There were 3 Catholic churches in Manchester at the time.  I have searched the records of St Marys, Mulberry Street via CD-ROM at my local library and found nothing.

The library did not have the CDs for the two other Catholic churches in Manchester at that time: St Chad in Cheetham or St Augustine, Granby Row. However the FHL has access to an electronic edition of these registers accessible through the catalog. Here is St Augustine: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/2484870?availability=Family%20History%20Library Here is St Chads https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/2773449?availability=Family%20History%20Library The entry for St Chad's indicates an electronic resource but I did not see a link like the one for St Augustines.

Based on where they lived in Manchester I would strongly suspect they were at St Augustine rather than St Chad.

If anyone was to be in the FHL in Salt Lake City I would be extremely grateful if they could make this quick lookup. I live in New Zealand so it is difficult and costly to visit Utah. I give my sincere thanks if anyone can do this. My experience of using the CDs of other Manchester Catholic churches made by the same organization is positive. They are easy to use and include an alphabetical index.

2. If any reader would know any helpful information for me to find the marriage of Daniel Hughes and Rosannah Collins, additional information about their lives and their places of origin in Ireland I would be very appreciative. I do not have any prior experience in researching Irish who came to England pre-Famine of 1845.

Thank you

Have you looked at worldcat.org?

WorldCat has an entry for St Patrick's Burials 1832-1860, and knows there is a copy in my local library, but doesn't have entries for the other records I mentioned. It is noticeable that on both of the links in my answer the entry in the FS catalog doesn't have a link to the WorldCat entry as is usual on the FS catalog.

This may be useful. Other researchers have Mary Ann Hughes as the daughter of Bernard Hughes and Rosanna(h) [Rose] Mulligan married at Manchester Cathedral on 16 Dec 1825. Bernard died in 1827 after a Mary Ann was born, He is buried at Manchester Cathedral. Rosanna seems to have married both times at an Anglican Church. There is evidence in Census Repots (Campbell) that she was born in 1801 in Ireland. This information may open up a new line of enquiry for you.

Kind regards

Thank you for your effort.

As I describe on the profile of Daniel Hughes, I have disproven this theory, having known and believed it for quite some time. Firstly, Mary Anne's marriage lists her father as Daniel Hughes, a dealer. Also, Bernard Hughes and Rosannah Mulligan/Milligan had a child born 1835. Thirdly, the baptism records of two of the children of Alexander Campbell and Rosannah Mulligan state her maiden name to be Collins (The other birth and baptism records say Hughes)
