Gilbert Clark Oakes was the husband of Abigail Moore (1812-1895). She was born in 1812 at Pittston, Maine to David Moore (Mooers) and Dolly (Abigail) Jackins. They married Phillips, Maine 25 June 1832.

Gilbert and Abbie Oakes had thirteen children that I know about born between the years 1833 and 1867.

Gilbert appears to have been the only child of Ebenezer Oakes (1772-1857) and Catherine Allen (1778-1849).

Did Ebenezer and Catherine Allen Oakes have other children? The 1840 Census of Township E, Range 2 shows a 20 to 30 year old female living with them. Needless to say, I don't know the probable relationship.

Thank you for the response to my question, Douglas. Just counting noses, that adds another daughter to the head count. Whether she married or died young, I'll likely never know.

This does not give you the answer you seek, but it does hint at the probability that Ebenezer Oakes had several children. The 1820 US Federal Census lists the following people living in his household: 1 white male under 10 yrs of age, 1 white male 10-15 yrs of age, 1 white male 16-25 yrs of age, 1 white male 45 yrs or older, 2 white females under 10 yrs of age, 1 white female 10-15 yrs of age, 1 white female 26-44 yrs of age.

Home in 1820 listed as Frankfort, Hancock, Maine

I have an Ebenezer Gardner Oakes (b. 16 Oct 1808, Orland, ME) in my family & he was married to Sarah Briggs.  They had 8 children (Estella, Mary, Emily, Eliza, Imogene, Fred, David, & Nelson).  Ebenezer had been married more than once; I have record that he had been married to a Harriet Mead (and probably others).

Ebenezer's parents were Abel Oakes and Betsey Hamlin.  (Betsey's family was that of the Honorable Hannibal Hamlin, 1st VP on the Lincoln ticket.   Hannibal had also been Senator & Gov. of Maine.)  Abel's parents were Capt. Jonathan Oakes & Abigail Rand.  Jonathan is said to have had 24 children by 4 wives but only 16 children lived to be named in his will in 1784.

Could this Ebenezer have been married to Catharine?
