following links might be useful for this group - http://www.genfiles.com/  from http://vagenweb.org/isleofwight/

Cheers, Liz
It would be great to connect this proposed group with the Jamestowne society, see http://www.nps.gov/jame/historyculture/genealogical-research-for-a-jamestown-ancestor.htm and http://www.jamestowne.org/Jamestowne_Society_Qualifying_Ancestors_Index.htm. I've been trying to connect to a qualifying ancestor but never finished the research, I've got a bunch from VA and MD before 1700. Qualifying members were in Virginia before 1650, or financially supported or invested in the Virginia Colony during the early time period.

Looks like Nae already proposed this as a project, see http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Projects. However it broadly includes all of the southern states, not just Virginia.
Been working on the early BALLs of Virginia (maternal ancestors of George Washington) and would really like to be able to add these emigrating ancestors to a Virginia (or Southern) colonists project.  What's it going to take to find a leader to co-lead such a thing? I bet Mary Hammond would agree to assist.

Such a project already has a category even -  Category:Virginia_Colony!

Also, for what counties were when, I find  http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~george/countyformations/virginiaformationmaps.html incredibly useful.

I don't think so but it would be great if there was one.

My understanding is that projects require someone with Supervisor status to sponsor/manage the project. So you'd need to find a Supervisor willing/interested in doing so. I will ask on the Supervisor list if there is someone who would be willing.

There is now!  Project:  US Southern Colonies (couldn't paste the link.. http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:US_Southern_Colonies#WikiTree_Resources so if this doesn't work, go to the main project page.

We just got the badge today, and we are actually setting this up a little differently to include the British colonies (Maryland-Georgia), Spanish colonies (Florida, Texas, etc) and French Colonies (New France...Louisiana, etc).  So there is plenty of work and areas of interest to work on.

Paula (PJ), Mags and I are heading this up, so contact any of one of us if you are interested in taking charge of any of these sub projects or colonies (this is open to all members, and you don't have to be a leader to head up a sub project :).

Template to come soon!  :)
