The Southern Pioneers project is about the pioneers who left the original colonial settlements and ventured into the wilderness to expand our early nation. Our mission is to preserve and protect the genealogy of these early pioneer families and to provide accurate connections between their immigrant ancestors and modern day descendants based on research and documented sources.

If you are interested please answer the question below

I am not profile manager but would like to see Leftwich-125 included as a southern pioneer. I take care of DNA for Leftwich and have been adding our Ancestor Report at WT. This fall our reunion is scheduled to be in Alabama. From Alabama descendants of this family moved into Texas, would that qualify as a Southern Pioneer? Based on the approved profile it appears the time frame fits the category.

Hello Sherrie

Nice to see your post.  We will take a look at your ancestor's profile here in a bit.

General Jabez Leftwich  has a very nicely done profile Sherrie.  And yes, I would say that he and his descendants do qualify as Southern Pioneers.  If he is a direct ancestor of yours you should submit your Pioneer Trail for review and approval.  Contact me if you have any questions about how to go about doing that.

Best regards

David Douglas

Thanks David,

I am not a direct descendant, I am a 6th great niece, so will ask a current day direct descendant to do follow through. I was welcomed by Paula J, but have not added the sticker for Southern Pioneers because I don't have a "direct connection" to any family members who left Bedford County Virginia. My roots are deep in Virginia, but I'm hoping to add to Southern pioneers with our researched families.
Sherrie

You dont need to have direct ancestors within the project to join.  If you have an interest in the project feel free to join.

I would like to join the Southern Pioneers Project.  My Southern roots run deep with settlers to governors to early pioneers and everywhere in between.  They lived in the Carolina's, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi and beyond.  I LOVE finding new ancestors, understanding their struggles and triumphs, and then connecting to new relatives through DNA passed down from these very ancestors.  I am delighted to assist this project in any way.

Hi, I would like to join the project. My ancestor, Adam Ivey, was born in the Virginia Colony about 1723. His son, Ephraim Ivey, born in Virginia, migrated to Warren County, Georgia.

I would like to join the Southern Pioneers Project. My roots are deeply southern with many pioneers, Revolutionary Patriots and Veterans of the Great Rebellion (Civil War). My family's migrations followed routes from Virginia into North and South Carolina. Then Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. Others left Virginia and the Carolinas for Kentucky, the Tennessee Territory, Mississippi Territory with families finally in Mississippi and Alabama.

I am still fairly new to WikiTree but like it. I try to work on it a bit at a time building skills. I still struggle to get things to work.

This is a nice project.

I would also like to join the project. My ancestor Robert Sheffield was a Revolutionary War patriot from North Carolina who was born in Virginia & settled in Georgia. Another ancestor, Samuel Jackson, was the son of Rev. Jacob Jackson & Ann Beals, Quakers, whose roots stretch from Pennsylvania to Tennessee to Texas & every where in between. I love history & discovering unknown or forgotten family stories.

I would like to join the Southern Pioneers project. I research ancestry for candidates of a lineage society in Arkansas. The ancestors of many of these candidates followed the typical migration routes from Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia across Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Arkansas. Some ventured into Louisiana and Missouri.

Am looking for VARNER-1561 ancestors, BREWER (unknown yet) ancestors related to Charity Elizabeth Brewer to whom I have tenuous DNA connections, and various others tagged on my page.

Quite a few of my ancestors came to South Carolina via the Great Wagon Road & the Carolina Road... and a few settled first in Charles Towne before trekking through the wilderness. Actually a few weren't actually pioneers, but were here all along! I'd like to help wherever I have something I can contribute.

I wish to join the Southern Pioneers Project. My mother comes from a long line of Friends (Quakers) who immigrated to Indiana from Virginia and North Carolina. I am currently attempting to unravel the story of the Small family's journey from Nansemond County in the Colony of Virginia in the late 17th century, thru North Carolina, back thru the western tip of Virginia, into Ohio before settling in Indiana at the beginning of the 19th century. Currently, it is in a state of a Small mess.

I have been working on multiple family migrations into the frontier. I could use some help in sourcing and categories. I have letters from 1830's - 1850's from ancestors in Northwest and Midwest I have traced back to Virginia NC. and SC. I am currently able to do some on the ground research in SC. and Western NC. Interested in Nolichuky River and Watauga settlement.

Yes, I would love to be apart of this project.  I have many in my lineage who left the original colonies and moved southward.  Especially into Texas.

Hello Lynn

You have come to the right place.  The Southern Pioneer's project was created to document and improve ancestral lineages such as yours.  All you need to do is add the project member sticker to your WikiTree profile page.  That is done by adding this bit of code to your page under the Biography heading,

This code goes below the ==Biography== heading on your profile page  (copy and paste)

{{Member|Southern Pioneers}}

Once you have done that head on over to our project discussion board and join.  Be sure to include your WIkiTree ID when joining,  You will be able to follow insider news and ask questions of fellow project members when you join as a member.

Regards, David Douglas

Yes.

My wife's tree includes Reames, Merrimoon / (Marmon), Outland, Johnson, Ricks, and several others who were early in Virginia and North Carolina.  Many were Quakers and migrated to Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. We still search for more detail and sources for their stories.

Hello. I would like to join this project. I live in Tennessee and most of my ancestors lived in Tennessee and in the south.
by Greta Moody G2G6 Pilot (199k points)

Greta, thanks for your interest. The US Southern Colonies project is undergoing a re-organization that will likely result in its focusing on pre-1776 southern colonies (Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia).  I encourage you to check out the Tennesse Project:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Tennessee

Thanks for the update on Southern Colonies Jillaine.  Southern Pioneers is the sister project so to speak, beginng where Southern Colonies takes off in 1776.  Greta thanks for joining Southern Pioneer's.

We look forward to working with you on our shared interests

David Douglass
David, I'm so sorry. I wasn't paying close enough attention.
Hi Jillaine! I am trying to join the Tennessee Project. The g2g post link for the Tennessee Project is this g2g post.
Hi David! Thanks, I look forward to being part of the Project! :)
Greta we are glad to have you.
No problem Jillaine.  SC and SP are similar projects with Southern Pioneer's taking up where Southern Colonies leaves off.  Im thinking we might do a newsletter for SC, or a combined one for both SC and SP together ?
I want to join Southern Colonies as well whenever it comes back. :)
You would be welcome to join Southern Colonies Greta.  I dont know the timeframe for reorganization but we should know something in the near future.
Sounds good!
