how would I prove or disprove siblings?

How would I prove or disprove that Mary (later Davis) and James Stacey were siblings? Both appear to be children of James and Edith Stacey. Mary (and several siblings I haven't added to Wikitree yet) were baptised at Stogursey, Somerset, Mary in 1794. James was baptised at Stockland Bristol in 1798, and does not appear to have any other siblings baptised there. He was married at Stogursey in 1822.

Stockland Brstol is only about 3 miles form Stogursey, and it is possible that either or both actually came from Stolford, which is about the same distance from both, and appears not to have had its own church, but is in teh parish of Stogursey.

James and his family emigrated to South Australia in 1840.

Mary's son Eli Davis emigrated in 1850 and is recorded as going to live "with relatives, near the mines" as he left the ship. He ended up buying land (a few years later) next door to James Stacey (and Eli's widowed mother-in-law eventually married James after his first wife died).

Thank you for any help on things I might not have thought of.

I don't know if I should make two sets of James and Edith parents or just a single set.

Scott

PS: James is Stacey-494 and Mary is Stacey-1153

I have had a look, and I must say you have done a top job with your profiles. I  can see why you hesitate to  make James and Edith  the parents. I too like to make sure my work is accurate.  I have a feeling  they are one and the same. I found an Edith died 1841 but I was unable to find a newspaper clipping to  prove her relationship.  To make life harder I found bands for James Stacey  but it does not show  Edith's maiden name. There is a Christening for Edith Stacey, parents James and Edith 1805.

Sorry I could not be of more help

Thank you.

I have Edith 1805-1809 as one of Mary's sisters, and a further Edith born 1812. I currently have Mary as one of 12 children (about half did not survive to adulthood) born between 1789 and 1812, and James as an only child.

I have Edith Stacey died 1841 as Mary Davis's mother, born Edith Nurton (ca. 1770) aged 77 from http://www.wsom.org.uk/Registers/StogurseyBur18411860.htm but I think I only made the relationship connection through geography.

I tend to use Ancestry.com as a repository of facts (of varying confidence), then write a story for the Wikitree profile that draws them together. I'd love to be able to link up to find living distant cousins descended from family who did not emigrate. Mary is my 4x great grandmother. I think her son Eli Davis's land in South Australia is still in the family, but not so sure about James Stacey's.

As not all records have been made available online, the absence of an online record for death or burial of another Edith Stacey married to another James Stacey is unfortunately not definitive for saying that James born ~1796 must be another child of the same family as Mary.
