If you want to join the England Project (a sub-project of the United Kingdom Project), this is the place to do it. You will be joining a fun, friendly and dedicated team, beavering away behind the scenes to make the profiles and pages related to England accurate and accessible. Just answer this post (don't just add a comment) and we will get you started. You will need to join up to WikiTree and have your Wiki Genealogist badge, before you join our project.

We have a number of ways you can be involved including sponsoring or helping with a county, working on an individual sub-project related to England, helping with the Project Protected Profiles (PPPs), and improving England profiles. We have recently launched our ‘orphans team’ which involves working on orphaned English profiles. Everyone joining the England project starts on the Orphans team. Whatever your current skill on WikiTree it’s a great way to settle in and get to know everyone. And if you are relatively new to WikiTree, we will support you to build your skills and feel confident collaborating on WikiTree.

Click on the England Project link to find out more.

If you don’t already have a United Kingdom Project badge, we will award you the badge when you join up. We will also invite you to join the England Project Google group. Remember to follow the United_Kingdom and England tags for updates on the G2G.

If you are focused at the moment on researching your own family from England and don’t have the time to contribute to the England Project, that’s fine too. You can always get involved down the track. In the meantime, you can still add the England sticker {{England Sticker}} to profiles of people born in England or add {{English Ancestor Sticker}} to your own profile.

Hi. It would be great to join the England project group. My husband's ancestors originated in Cornwall (Penzance) and mine from Kent. So I have been entering loads of data as I have been finding people with sources and creating profiles
Hi Pat, thanks for your interest in the England project. It will be excellent to have you involved. I'll send you a private message and we'll get you all set up.

I’d like to join the England project group. I have been researching my family tree for a long time and have only just joined Wikitree, I am currently creating profiles for Derbyshire ancestors.

Hi Susan. Thanks for your interest. I'll send you a private message to get things started. Gillian
I would love to join the England Project. My DNA and research has many connections with people throughout Great Britain.
Hi Ernest, thanks for your interest in joining the England Project. I'll send you a private message and we can get you started. Gillian
I want to help, I would love to join England and Scotish clans project, as I have ancestors in England and Scotland ( some nobles, kings and queens, etc, the Clan Drummond and I'm pre1500 certified). Besides my tree here, my Living DNA test confirms that my origin is 25% from the area (my profile page has the report shown) .
Hi Carlos, thanks for your post. I can organise to get you set up in the England Project. I'll send you a private message now to do that. To join the Scottish Clans project, please go to this link https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scottish_Clans#How_to_Join.
I'd love to join the England project group. I'm not sure what badges I have, so I hope I'm qualified. My dad's family line has ties to English royalty which is exciting!
Please add me to the England project.
Thank you for your interest Robin, I will contact you shortly.

Would also like to join the England project-50 percent DNA says I just might be English.  I am researching Wilmont, Ladd, and Denne as far as surnames go-there is a place called Denne Hill that is in the Kent area I'm focusing on.  Anyway, I'll contribute as much as I can find!

Hi Joel. That's excellent. Thanks! I'll send you a private message to get things started. Cheers Gillian

Hi.  May I join the England group, as it is where most of the relations I'm adding are from?  I also have a question - I'm fairly new to the idea of categories and I'm trying to start using them, so I've been trying to add categories to one profile I added today.  This relation (rather to my surprise) has a page on Wikipedia and it said his birthplace is Greasbrough Yorkshire, and his Wikipedia page is in a category "People from Greasbrough".  So I thought I would put him in a similar category here, but there is no category for Greasbrough on WikiTree, either as a subcategory of Rotherham or as a subcategory of West Riding of Yorkshire, and I don't have privileges to add one.  Should I just put him in Rotherham instead, or how do I apply to have Greasbrough added as a subcategory?

Hello! I'm a long time researcher (back to 1991) and would love to join the England project. I've been on Wikitree for a while now and am always updating my tree (London, Middlesex, Suffolk, Essex) and searching out resources for those hard to find ancestors. My hubby also has ancestors from Cornwall, Norfolk and Yorkshire.

My father's mother was from Glemsford, Suffolk.  My mother's family were mostly descended from Winthrop Fleet English, some of them also from Glemsford.

I'd love to contribute at some point, once getting my own family entered and edited.  Specifically, I'd like to do a Glemsford-Cavendish project: within some time frame establish everyone living there (say, 1850-1900 or 1800-1850 or something manageable to start).
by Robin Anderson G2G6 Mach 4 (43.6k points)
What you may want to do is a One Place Study for Glemsford.  See the Project page here:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:One_Place_Studies

You could also join the England Project Orphaned Profiles Team to get you used to basic editing and involved in the England Project:
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:England_Orphaned_Profiles_Team
Well, before striking out alone, I'd rather contribute to England in general...perhaps taking on orphans.  It will take sometime before getting to that, as I am only half through entering my family.
Hi Robin. Thanks for your interest in joining the England Project. I’ll follow up with you by private message.

Hi: Not sure how much use I can be since I now live in Mexico, but I have an interest, particularly in Lancashire, where I was born and grew up and in the Ashworth family. A recent issue that came up for me was the potential link between Ashworth and Ashe surnames. I wonder if they should be linked as related surnames. My grandfather told an oral history of being descended from Ashe who came from Normandy with the Norman Conquest. I recently discovered an Ashe family history which identifies their origin from Normans who came to England in the 11th century.
by John Hodgson G2G1 (1.3k points)
Thanks for your interest in joining the England Project. I’ll follow up with you by private message.

I am not sure about your Ashworth and Ashe surname question, although it sounds interesting. Maybe you could ask a separate question about that on the G2G.
Thanks Gillian - I'm working on getting set up. I have your message in my email but have yet to find the private message on wikitree.

The Asworth/Ashe question has been posed as you suggest at https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/558368/should-ashe-be-included-in-ashworth-genealogy
Hi John, private messages on WikiTree go to your email inbox - so that is the one I sent you, presumably. If you send private messages from peoples' profile pages, they get sent as an email. If you post a comment on a profile page, it gets sent as an email to the profile manager of that page.

Hi,

I am hoping that I can be added to The England WikiTree Project. I love reading and researching as much as I can about all of my Ancestors who came from England. I have English Ancestors all around England, from the North, South, Eastern, and Western Coast. My Great Grandfather Immigrated from Gloucestershire England  to The US in 1880, and my English lines that Immigrated to The US go back to 1620 to 1880. Thank you

I want to help other people search their English Roots as I myself do

Hello, my name is Sandie Schwarz, my WikiTree id is Schwartz-2715. I would love to help with the orphan files for the England Project. I have researched my childrens' paternal English roots for about 15+ years now. Surnames Gifford & Moon (originally de Mohun), and all surnames that intertwine within these families.
