Looking for Joseph Brown's family, Parents? Siblings?

My brown family line is in NY State and I've traced it back to about 1770.  Do you know where in NY State he was born ?  Even the name of a County would help to see if there's any connection.  There are state census' here but they don't begin until 1855.

Are you sure your facts are correct?  The 1850 census for Iowa says Joseph was born in New Jersey not New York.  And, was he married in Pike County, Ohio?  Or is it Lake County, Ohio?  Or is it Pike Township, Brown County, Ohio?  There is no "Like" Ohio.

I know I sound picky but location is everything in genealogy especially when you're dealing with a name as common as Joseph Brown.  There are millions of Joseph Browns to sort through.

Thanks for pointing out the typo for Pike Co. Ohio , I am fairy certain he was born in New York, We have several family papers that state it.

Go to Ancestry.com and a "private" family tree involving Joesph, Diantha and their son Joesph.  You'll need to contact  "bentleyp114" to access those tree records.  Diantha is reported there as born in Pike, PA (could have been married here) 1791 to Peleg Carr and Elizabeth Travis (thus the middle name "Carr" shown at FAG.)  At this point her birth date on FAG is questionable but her death date there agrees with the tree.   Also, look at that 1850 USC and see most of family - children and grandchildren named after her parents.  By 1825 they were in Ohio and by 1848 in Iowa.  Also an alternate, look at 1840 USC for St. Lawrence County NY.  As to "NJ" the source of Joesph's record may be incorrect or who ever mentioned "NY" in those papers you have may or may not have been misinformed.  There's plenty to go forward with here.  NJ's close proxcimity to New York City presents a more difficult scenario than if his records were in New York State because New York City's records are separate from the State's records.  Historic confusion: Early-on part of NJ (i.e. Hoboken) was as part of NY City called "West New York City.  I recommend you pursue a marriage record (i.e at LDS), track their children for their various birth places, and look at city directories.

My Brown family started in New Jersey and moved to various places in western New York. Mine specifically settled in Niagara County in late 1700s.
