Proposal: modify Medals sticker

I have come across a large number of individuals that have received more than one particular medal, and would like to see the Medals sticker allow adding a quantity to the sticker. For example, Ronald Ellwin Evans Jr is an astronaut notable who was awarded 8 Air Medals.

Also, the grammar should be corrected somehow. As it exists, the text says "...was awarded a Air Medal" where it should be "...an Air Medal".

It may be simpler to have 3 kinds of stickers - one that says "awarded a", one that says "awarded an" and one that says "awarded X" (where X is the number of medals awarded) and appends an "s" at the end. The results would look like this:

"... was awarded a Air Medal"

"... was awarded an Air Medal"

"... was awarded 8 Air Medals"

Thanks!

What a terrific suggestion, Gilbert! I love the medal stickers, but they can start making a profile page look cluttered when there are several of them--and one special multi-medal sticker can provide the information elegantly.

I'm now updating my answer to include an update on how the newly-unified WikiTree Profile Stickers will appear, with samples created by Ales to show screenshots. This link is to a G2G thread from Aug 2017:

G2G Thread: What do you think of these profile "Stickers" (replacing Recognition Boxes and User Boxes)?

Who can make the changes?
I recommend adding some tags to your question, to help bring your ideas to the people working on this. Such tags could include: templates, user_boxes, recognition_boxes, style, announcements
Ok, thanks!

the {{Medal}} sticker was created to display image/text on a profile for the highest decoration of a country, such as Medal of Honor, Victoria Cross, etc

with the change to stickers, that highlight of information went from a large, centered image to a small box on the right side.

while it will work with any medal since all that is passed in is the image and name of the decoration, it becomes a bit of overkill...  citing the decoration in the profile, adding it to the category, then having a sticker to show it again.

I am all for simplification. I am new to the classification aspect, and was trying to echo what is displayed on the person's Wikipedia profile. I was not very keen on the box alignment to the right of the page anyway. I am looking for a modification to the text inside the box. I am also not very keen on a long list of categories on a profile.

I suppose I could work out my own medals display box, but I wanted to be consistent (silly me).

I would guess the Air Medal isn't very high in the order of importance, since my example was awarded 8 of them. Here is the list from Wikipedia:

"Evans was presented with the NASA Distinguished Service Medal in 1973, the Johnson Space Center Superior Achievement Award in 1970, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal in 1973, Navy Astronaut Wings, eight Air Medals, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing service in 1966."

The {{Medal}} sticker adds the category.

I believe that the current style rules limit stickers to 5 per profile.

categories are unlimited, and yes, many people complain about it being too cluttered.  there have been other G2G threads about moving the category listing to the bottom of the display, allowing it to hide/unhide or putting into a scroll box if there are more than X categories

I modified Ron Evans to just show the medals and a description in a table, much like I had been doing the astronaut mission patches.

I also modified Frank Everest (Everest-335). He had a pile of medals, too.
