Hi,

Marjory Petrie was my Great, great, great Grand Mother.

To the best of my knowledge her parents were James Petrie 1742-1823 and Marjory Forsyth 1744-1824.

Any further info for Marjory will be gratefully recieved.

Here are some of my Petrie-Bain connections: On the reverse side of the stone: Also in memory of JOHN BAIN beloved husband of JEAN PETRIE who died 29 April 1904 aged 80 years and the above JEAN PETRIE died 18th day of September 1911 aged 83 years

Jean Mather Petrie b. 10 July 1828  ch. 17 Aug 1828 Drumsleed, Fordoun, Kincardineshire, Scotland “JAMES PATRIE subtenant on Drumsleed and ISOBEL GREIG his wife had their daughter JEAN born 10th July 1828 Baptised August 17 1828.  Baptism was witnessed by John & David Petrie, sons of the said James Petrie." [FORDOUN OPR 1828 Baptisms (LDS film 0993317)]  m. John Millar Bain 17 Mar 1854 Montrose, County of Angus, Scotland d. 18 Sep 1911 (age 83) 5  High Street or 22 Market Street, Montrose, Angus, Scotland. The informant on her death certificate was Jessie Strachan Petrie Beattie, granddaughter of Jean's brother Robert  bur. Rosehill Cemetery - the stone stands in the old section of the cemetery and is made I think of sandstone, it is in relatively good condition, but the edges of each side are becoming weathered making the inscription difficult to read, especially on the reverse side . . . judging by the condition of some other sandstone memorials within the graveyard I think it is only a matter of time before the facing splits from the stone and detaches completely leaving no record of the inscription. So I have taken photographs for you. The actual inscription reads: 1842 Erected by JAMES PETRIE in memory of his sister MARGARET who died 19 December 1842 also his spouse ISOBELLA GREIG who died 15 January 1845 aged 58 years Also the said JAMES PETRIE who died 3rd June 1852 aged 78 years. On the reverse side of the stone: Also in memory of JOHN BAIN beloved husband of JEAN PETRIE who died 29 April 1904 aged 80 years and the above JEAN PETRIE died 18th day of September 1911 aged 83 years" [Norma (Petrie) Thain (1998)]  John Millar: b. 22 Nov 1822 St. Vigeans Parish, County of Angus, Scotland d. 28 Apr 1904 (age 80 yrs) 22 Market Street, Montrose, County of Angus  Parents: Peter Bain & Annie Millar  Occupation: linen weaver or floor cloth weaver

1881 Census Dundee: Jessie S. Petrie daughter age 2 born Dundee. Jessie was the informant on the death certificate (18 Sep 1911, Montrose) of her grandfather Robert's sister, Jean Mather Petrie Bain. Apparently Jean Mather Petrie and John Millar Bain had no children of their own.

John Millar Bain: b. 22 Nov 1822 St. Vigeans Parish, County of Angus, Scotland d. 28 Apr 1904 (age 80 yrs) 22 Market Street, Montrose, County of Angus  Parents: Peter Bain & Annie Millar  Occupation: linen weaver or floor cloth weaver

Hope this helps,

Dave Petrie
