I would think that depends on why he paid and did not serve...  if he did so because he was a loyalist he would go into that category and not a patriot one... {{1776}} is for anyone involved, not just the colonists, i.e. British, Canadian, French, etc are also included

they might have paid because they were too old, large family, essential business, etc and still supported the cause, just not able to fight....
