G'day from Queensland, Australia everyone.  I am still thinking of myself as new to WikiTree, although I joined in early December.  I have been researching my own family for some 50 years and am finding WikiTree the best way to get thinking happening.  I have found so many people so helpful.  And I think I have been able to help some others.  And 20,000 contributions, a few mistakes which I am learning to correct, and still lots of family to upload.  It's 4:15am here, so I am off to bed, but will check in when I wake and see if I can chat a bit.  Keep on digging, everybody. Regards, Ken
Sweet Dreams!   Looking forward to hearing from you after you wake up!
Ditto to what Laura and Kenneth said. Thank you Laura for hosting the WikiTree weekend chat. Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree chat. How do you like that name for the month of February WikiTree Weekend chat Laura? Laura you could use that or whoever hosts the WikiTree weekend chat for the month could use that for the title for the month for the WikiTree weekend chat. I think that is catchy and right on line for the month don't you think so?
Love is the glue that holds the family together and WikiTree is all about family.   I can see that!

Thank you for hosting, Laura!

LOVE YOU ALL!  Hugs!
Aside from YouTube? Hmm. I guess this is close enough. =P
Well I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the chat.  Hope to see you back next weekend!

This week saw a 150 year triple Lunar treat... a Super, Blue, Blood Moon.

In case you missed it:

Super Blue Blood Moon 2018: Here Are The Best Photos and Videos   and  NASA Videos

Did you see it?   Where were you and was it worth getting up, braving the elements?

by Laura Bozzay G2G6 Pilot (823k points)
My folks should have been able to see a RED moon (or did mom say supermoon?) and a lunar eclipse in NZ during the past week, but it was overcast and most of the country did not see it!!
It was a bit cloudy here ... the moon was pretty hazy through the clouds ... plus, the moon set about 25 minutes after the total eclipse (6:30AM here).  I fired up the live stream on the NASA web-site ... that was pretty cool.
I wanted to see it but the night before my mom wasn't feeling good and my dad had started to now wear his CPAP at night so he got up that morning at midnight after going to bed at 9:00 p.m. and I was trying to help mom get to bed in her recliner that she has slept in 5 years since she has back problem and her arthritis disease she has. So I end up sleeping in my recliner in my living room so I could hear her if she need me to get or do something for her so we didn't get much sleep or rest so I ended up sleeping thru it. But my mother was up about 6:00 a.m. and wanted to see it but couldn't find it. My dad is causing a lot of problem and as my mom reminds me it going to get worse before he dies.  Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
Ah yes, I was up at 4:30 am in California and loved being a part of a once in a lifetime event!
Linda now you can all share the experience through the video links.

I got to see the beginning of this but had to get on the road.. mostly a white cloud covering the top with red shadows from the upcoming sunrise. Here's a different picture of it in blue at one point but I didn't that.

Beautiful photo Dorothy. We were cloud-covered all night so sadly didn't get to see it.

Tips

  1.  A good way to learn how to do something is by joining projects or challenges.   WikiTree has a huge selection of Projects and more being added all the time.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Projects  We also have challenges that make learning and strengthening our Tree FUN.   Right now the Monthly Sourcerers’ Challenge (where you find and add sources to unsourced profiles) is going on for Feb.  It is not too late to join.  Simply go to this thread in G2G and ANSWER (not Comment) the Question with you name and that you would like to participate. You can specialize in a specific area, time period, or surname. There is a special tracker you can use that automatically counts your contribution.
  2. Did you know there is an information page for the G2G?  https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/about and that under Projects:  Integrators there is a section for the Chat? https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:All_About_the_Weekend_Chat and this is where you find the Rules / Guidelines for the Chat:  As always, be nice. WikiTree is all about being polite and kind. Because our site is free and open and as genealogy is about families, in order to keep the chat fun for people of all ages, we need to remember our postings to the chat are open to the public. :-) So please no politics, crude language, or more adult type topics. Say something positive and above all have fun.  Please "flag" any inappropriate content. It will be reviewed, evaluated, and dealt with promptly.  Post as many answers on different topics as you wish, it's ok!
  3.   Did you know that the up and down voting for questions in G2G is not intended that every post gets an up vote and down votes are fairly controversial if you read existing G2G threads.  Many feel that a down vote should require a stated reason.  The reality is, the person getting a down vote rarely knows it because they do not get any kind of notification and without knowing why it is pretty much a useless way of communicating.  So Up Vote when you really agree with and think a post is appropriate and refrain from upvoting something that is not in keeping with our WikiTree Honor Code.   Also please remember the flag is used to identify abusive posts and bring them to the attention of admin.  It is not to flag something you like.  It is like a penalty flag in sports.
  4. Some things are run once a day in the database and may not show up until the following day.  So. if you make some changes to a profile, like adding DNA data, you may not see the information show up on related profiles until the next day.
by Laura Bozzay G2G6 Pilot (823k points)
You are most welcome, Mindy!
Funny story (sarcasm), I just read this post today, then about 10 minutes ago I was pounced on by my 3 yr old while I was scrolling through g2g on my tablet. When I looked at the screen again, I had accidentally touched a flag button. I felt horrible. Then, when I went to reply to this comment, my finger almost hit flag instead of reply because I didn't take the time to zoom my screen first.
Three year olds do love to be three. XD
The good news is you can unflag it.  Accidents do happen.  And 3 year olds are a lot of fun but they do cause some interesting things to happen!
Yup. *smirks*
Great tips. Thanks Laura.

Thanks for hosting the weekend chat Laura and great post :) Love Projects and challenges, and some other news is, we now are working on translating all help pages and subjects in for example French and Dutch to remove the language barrier and make sure everything about WikiTree is available and easy to understand for members from all over the world.

So for those of you interested if you would like to see WikiTree explained in your language (Italian, South African, German, etc.) You can contact Ales and he will set you all up, it are ''just'' over 300 pages/subjects but with a group of people it's fun and soo worth it !

Bea this is a great project for anyone with language skills to help with!

I hope to be able to get involved by the end of the month.  Translations are so needed so everyone can get maximum benefit for WikiTree.
I want to show what I've made to a cousin in Italy. Hopefully they can translate it into Italian.
I often use several online machine translators to get an idea of what is being said.  (they are not perfect but generally you can get some idea of the content)  I use google translate and freetranslation.com a lot.  Also I have noticed that the translator built into Microsoft Word does a pretty good job.

Today is.....

Will he see his shadow or will he not?  That is the question we all had this morning! Well, the groundhog hath spoken! Welcome to six more weeks of winter!!

Groundhog Day is observed on February 2nd, each year in the United States and Canada.  For a nice welcomed break during the winter, on this day the groundhog awakens from his nap and goes outside to see if he can see his shadow.  It is believed by many that if the groundhog sees his shadow that there will then be six more weeks of winter. If this is so,  he then retrieves back into his den and goes back to sleep.  If he is not able to see his shadow, the groundhog remains outside to play and people celebrate believing that spring is just around the corner.

The tradition of predicting the length of the remaining winter is intertwined with the Christian holiday, Candlemas. Clergy would bless candles symbolizing the ‘light of the world’ to give to their congregations.  Another tradition associated with this day is eating crepes.  Germans practiced the art of predicting the winter with a hedgehog until their arrival in the United States when they settled in the hills of Pennsylvania, and the groundhog became the official predictor.

Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania has been chosen as the site for the annual Groundhog day event.  Thousands of people come to the town of Punxsutawney on Groundhog Day for this day of celebration.

Although already a well known day, Groundhog Day received widespread attention as a result of the 1993 film Groundhog Day, which was set in Punxsutawney and portrayed Roger Rininger as the groundhog.

Little rodent better not see his shadow....
I think it's too late for that!!  LOL
It seems to me that he has seen his shadow a LOT lately. Could it be because everyone shines floodlights on the poor creature?!
Sounds like his average is only around 50% so maybe we still have hope fro warm spring coming soon!
Thanks for this National Day every weekend Dorothy the are very informant.  Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
He saw the memo. That scared him worse than his shadow.
Well I don't want to publicise my ignorance, but I didn't realise that groundhogs were actually animals! Thank you Dorothy. You never know what you will learn at a weekend chat.

Today is also....

Long before any substantial chewing gum formed bubbles, ancient human beings chewed bits of resin from trees. All around the world, people collected substances from the available trees and used them for dental care and general enjoyment.

It wasn’t until 1928 after decades of failure by those before him, and several of his own, that Walter Diemer created the first bubble producing gum. His employer, the Fleer Chewing Gum Company, marketed it as “Dubble Bubble”.

The largest bubble gum bubble ever blown was 50.8 centimeters (20 inches) in diameter. Chad Fell of Haleyville, Alabama blew the bubble with three pieces of Dubble Bubble on April 24, 2004 at Double Springs High School in Winston County, Alabama.

by Dorothy Barry G2G Astronaut (2.7m points)
I was never very good at blowing bubbles with gum.  But then I really never chewed gum a lot.  But I always admired those who could do those marvelous big bubbles!
Hi hi Laura I only did it ones when I was a child my aunt got so angry because I had lots of bobble gum and I made those bubbles she send  me home, was she angry.
One of my friends had very long hair and when she blew a bubble it popped and got stuck in he hair.  It was a mess getting it out....   I remember after working at it for hours a neighbor said use ice... and it was like magic it just fell away...
What a chock she must have got but I bet Laura you all laugh of it today and think it was a funny story
I remember she was so afraid they were going to have to cut her hair.

The ice was a great trick.
You are right Laura.  Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
Thanks for the 'Today Is' Dorothy! You always find such fun info...

This week I took the first of the genealogy courses I plan on taking over the next few months. I also got the "new" computer running and loaded my home genealogy software on it, this computer is dedicated to genealogy at least for now. I tried to download a GEDCOM from wikiTree to provide a starting point on my new software and the related project to clean up a lot of problems I have encountered but the software will not accept the download. I guess it is better to work on adding everything manually anyway but I tried. I found out that the genealogy department at my local library uses the exact same program I installed on my computer so that is a plus but they will not even think about recommending WikiTree because the standards on here are in direct opposition to the way they recommend, They also say it is better to have your work on your personal computer. I ordered the book for another course I will be starting on Amateur Radio at the end of the month and running for 12 weeks and finally bought some "Barry's Irish Tea" to try. This weekend we are going to look at a couple of houses with the thought of moving soon.

I have to go now to get things ready for the grandchildren coming over for dinner later so have a good weekend everyone
by Dale Byers G2G Astronaut (1.7m points)
My youngest granddaughter is spending the night tonight.  She is here now.  I am balancing feeding, changing and playing with her and being on the chat!
We had 3 grandchildren over for dinner along with their parents and 2 of the kids decided to spend the night.
That sounds like fun!
Ditto to whateveryone said. Tomorrow my sister and brother-in-law and my nephew really the dog Ollie is coming to work on my mom's new computer it isn't working like she wants so he is coming down to check it out they told her last month that computer she has now that he bought down with him at Christmas is hers because there seems something was very wrong with her old one. So from in the morning until some time in the afternoon when they leave I will be busy with them. Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
Have fun with the courses, Dale, and enjoy your weekend!

This week my dad and I spat into tubes for the AncestryDNA tests and sent it off to be analyzed. (Seriously, Chris? That's your opener?). It was a fun experience. I guess. I mean I was sitting across from a dentist with degrees in chemistry and he was flicking the tube like a chemist. He was cracking jokes and being awesome. My parents are where I get my sarcasm from. It also doesn't help that I'm from north of Boston. So....There ya go.

I might have my mother tested. I don't know. She was having fun listening to the two of us try to fill the tube.

So, I got the tests out and I mark myself here as "DNA tested". Suddenly I am getting DNA confirmations from people I added up to like the 1700s from all over. That's normal, right? I mean I know they are connected thanks to births, marriages, death records, censuses and all that. Just weird to see it all pop up. How do I confirm it? Especially for someone who has been dead for over two hundred years.

Oh! And Mike Maranda has made me a project coordinator for the Italian Roots project. No idea what that means. I've just been adding people left and right.  I also found a new icon or something stating "Chris has Italian roots". I added it to my profile. Are there badges for Quebec? Don't want to leave anything out.

I guess for tips I can say that when you take one of those DNA tests make sure you don't eat for at least a half an hour. Don't drink anything. My dad was going to and my mother and I were like "NO!" Gotta follow the instructions. OH! And be sure to rub the glands in your mouth with your tongue to produce saliva. It also makes less bubbles.

And this is probably the grossest thing I EVER said on Wikitree. Like ever.

Expect a VLOG from me about the results. I will be turning off comments because YouTube is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Someone will find any reason to be racist. Love having people comment. It's great. But, people on YouTube can be downright evil sometimes.
by Chris Ferraiolo G2G6 Pilot (756k points)
Good luck with the DNA, Chris.

Have you joined the Quebecois Roots project?  I think there is one.
Oui. =)

That was the second group I joined last summer.
. Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
Get your cinnamon hearts and chalky candy here!!
Good luck with the DNA Chris! Congrats on making that step. And congrats on Project Coordinator. I'm sure you'll add a lot to those Italian families.
Oh, I did.

I just hope there's enough food here to go around.*

*There's never enough food. Who am I kidding?
"Youtube is a wretched hive of scum and villainy" -bahahahahaha! Best description ever. Maybe I'm easily amused, but this post absolutely sent me into fits of giggles, and lured me into participating in the weekend chat.

edited to include the word wretched, accidently left out of quote.
That's what I'm here for. Welcome to the chat! =D
So glad you dropped in!

Please don't forget to answer the Question of the Week - Have you found any Olympians in your family tree?

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/552809/question-the-week-have-you-found-olympians-your-family-tree

Thank you.
by Robynne Lozier G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
I'm waiting for the Question of the Week "Do you have Mafia ties?"

I have the perfect answer. >=)

"Shh! Who squealed?! Was it Eddie? Antonio?!"
My first silly thought was that I'm sure I had some relation that was born in Olympia, Washington ... just down the road from where I grew up ...think they're called Olympians ... lol
I was thinking Olympian Gods and Goddesses at first myself.
One of my nicknames when I worked in Corporate America was "the Goddess of AV" coined by the head of our shipping department.  Does that count?    This was because I had all kinds of weird things we would need to ship like set pieces.  When he would protest I would say something like but you are the Hercules of Shipping!   So he started calling me the Goddess of AV....

My family was not very athletic.  Unless you count listening to the Cardinals.
Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
Great reminder Robynne. Thank you! Sadly no Olympians in my family or even athletes of note.

Three inches of snow yesterday ... winter's back!  Well, it's more like spring again today ... lol.

Daughter and family are coming down this afternoon after school.  This evening we're headed to see the play, 'The Wizard of OZ' ... 6 year old granddaughter is pumped ... she's seen the movie and had the book read to her ... she hopes the play is more like the movie as she liked that better.

We're off to see the Wizard ...

I've just finished my weekly family chat (to my mother and sister in New Zealand).

They were telling me that that the Supermoon, Blue or red moon and the lunar eclipse were all busts because of the on and off again cloud cover.

My sister also told me about several hundred tourists and other travellers who were stuck in a mountain road in the south island (between Haast Pass  and the west coast) when mudslips happened in front of them and then another one behind them. Cell phone coverage was spotty so they were forced to camp in that section of road for 24 hours before they could be rescued!!

Here are some news items in case you are interested.

As for Genealogy, I have been working on the Gigg family of Sidmouth in Devon, England. There are lot of them with the same names showing up in each new generation. They are also very loosely attached to my family by marriage.

I am also working on Maggie Smiths family after I recently purchased a biography about her. I think she is cool. I love her wit, her sarcasm and her comedic timing. She was brilliant in the Sister Act movies, as well as as McGonagall on the Harry Potter Movies and in Downton Abbey!!

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Smith-70085

That's all the news I have for now!!

Ciao.
by Robynne Lozier G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
Dame Maggie is a national treasure I think.  Sorry about the bad view of the Super, Blue, Blood moon and the mudslides!   Hope everyone is ok!

Enjoy the links to the event I posted at the top of the thread.
MY family were nowhere near that part of the country, so they are fine!! Thanks for your concern anyway..

You know that scottish accent that Maggie does so well as McGonagall? It has just occurred to me that Maggie's mother was from Glasgow so maybe thats why the accent sounded so real? LOL
You ever notice how Maggie Smith looked OLDER in the Sister Act movies than she did in all of the Harry Potter movies?

She and all British actors are Time Lords. I mean the guy who played Flich played William Hartnell in the Adventures in Space and Time biopic for Doctor Who. AND he played the First Doctor in the last Christmas special:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkWxMG-JDk4
I had no idea that Filchie also played Hartnell's doctor who!! Wow I learned something new today!! Thanks.
Yep. So looking forward to our new female Doctor. No bad actor has ever played the Doctor. Even Colin Baker. It can be said, though, that Colin tried despite several issues at the time.

1. The BBC trying to can the show.

2. John Nathan Turner sleeping with his ex-wife.

3. Poor scripts.

Baker has done amazing work in the audio dramas since then.

Side note. Which Doctors have profiles here?
Ditto to what everyone said. Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
Terrible weather at the Top of the South too Robynne. If you know Nelson, there was damage to Rocks Road and the Boat Shed and Boat House cafes because of the storm plus king tides.
The palliative care home in Dunedin where my father died was also flooded out. Patients and staff all had to be evacuated!!

The storm reached from the west coast clear across to Dunedin on the East coast of the South Island!!
I hope everyone was ok!

Well hello

Recap on last weekend: On the Friday, I had an 80th birthday celebration in which I had to setup and manage a sound system. Grandparents golden anniversary on the Saturday wasn't as bad as we had previously thought with the major of the factions of the family being no shows. Decent afternoon on the Sunday climbing up Battle Hill with a close friend of mine.

This week: Had a job interview at the start of the week, the job of which I didn't get. Enrolment submitted for the next year of study on my degree, slow job in cleaning a section of gutter at our church (I say slow, because of our weather patterns over the last couple of weeks) and we had to put down our remaining dog last night

by Richard Shelley G2G6 Pilot (245k points)
yeah like a hurricane - see the links I posted in my post about the west coast slips!!  LOL
I'm aware of everything down there. I knew about the Haast business within a couple of hours of it occuring
50 years is quite an accomplishment!  Congrats to that couple!  And 80 years is great too!   Sorry about your job search.  But often something better shows up.
Ditto to everyone. In July my dad if he is alive will be 86 years old.Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
Lets hope for 86 years young!
Sorry to hear about your dog Richard, I had to put down two, no fun, the first went smoothly but the second wasn't so good. I just hope Rascals didn't suffer too bad, but her being unable to walk on her own was painful enough to watch. This was about 6 years ago. Anyway, I hope you consider adopting another dog soon.
What an eventful week. So sorry to hear about your dog. But glad that everything went smoothly with your grandparents anniversary.  Thanks for the link to Battle Hill. I love walking.
Somehow I missed the last line about your beloved canine family member.  I was babysitting and got interrupted a lot yesterday...

We had Alaskan Malamutes for over 20 years.  I cried for days every time I lost one.  They were true members of our family and often people who do not have pets do not understand the deep sense of loss we feel when we loose a loved animal member of our family.

Deepest sympathy to you and your family.
You are right Laura about pets are really members our families like their are humans and are children. Ditto Laura

Hello everyone.  I am a new "wikitreer" and so far I am loving it.  Lost a little still, but loving it.  I am only 2nd generation born Canadian, except on my maternal grandfather's side where I am 3rd there.  I am currently searching that grandfather's Dad and his family who came from Italy.  I will however want to find the rest of my roots which are direct from Poland and Hungary. A big mix of a whole lot including French Canadian.

If anyone has information to share regarding the province of Udine, I'd appreciate it.

Welcome Erin!  We love it when newbies drop in to the chat.  This is a great place to interact with other WikiTreers  as people.   Have you checked out the Canadian History Project?  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Projects#Canadian_History

There are also:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Quebecois  for French Canadian,  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Italian_Roots for your Italian ancestry, and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Poland for your Polish ancestry.   We don't have a Hungarian project yet.  But my husband is of Hungarian ancestry so feel free to contact me as I have some experience researching Hungarian records.
Hi. I'm a coordinator for the Italian Roots project. I noticed that Mike added you to the group. Congrats! If you need help looking up Italian names check this site out:

http://www.italianames.com/italian-last-names-maps

That site will show you where people live that have that last name.

Like you I also have a lot of Quebecois roots. This site may help get you started on finding some people:

http://www.nosorigines.qc.ca/genealogie.aspx?lng=en

The thing is with that site it's good for making rough draft profiles. If you need the actual records I am sure someone here can check PDRH or the Drouin records.

Good luck! There are a lot of helpful people here! If you have questions, please let us know! Welcome to the chat!
Thanks Chris for helping out a New Chatter and WikiTreer!
No problem!
Thank you Laura for all of the information.  I appreciate it very much.

Am I safe to assume that when I flag an answer all you lovely people have provided that it is saved somewhere that's easier to access?

I have been lucky to join the Poland and Italian Roots projects already and will look into the Canadian history project and the project québécois
No. That's not how flagging works.

Just bookmark the thread and you should be able to access it when needed. Flagging means you report someone for bad behavior.

Good luck!
Thanks Chris for the information.  I appreciate it.  I still feel like a fish out of water, but with a small puddle to lay in now!!!
Hey. We were all new once. Though, you might want to unflag me and Laura. Just click the unflag button and you'd be good to go. =D
Oh my goodness.  I am very sorry.  All unflagged.
Erin I get flagged for the wrong reasons all the time!  People not understanding what that means.   It is like a penalty flag in sports... it means someone has done something big time wrong!
Don't worry about it. We were all newbies once. =)
Welcome to WikiTree and also to the WikiTree Love Month WikiTree Weekend chat Erin.Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
Laura,

I wanted to say thank you for the links that you shared today with me.  I have found the birth records for my great grandfather and his siblings already.  You have no idea how excited I am to have found these, well maybe you do!!!

This is so fantastic!
You never know what you learn on the chat!  So many diverse folks drop in with all kinds of knowledge.  Glad mind was helpful to you today!
Yep. Laura is all kinds of amazing. She was helping me with finding my connection to Joseph Felker on the tree. All it took was finding his name on his grandson Jeremiah's death certificate. His father wasn't on there because of drama. Lots of it. We found several Joseph Felkers and eventually narrowed it down to one guy.
Hi Erin. Great to meet you. WikiTree is definitely a steep learning curve! I hope you find some others who are have ancestors from Udine. I googled there and I gather it is in Italy. Cheers!
Hi Gillian,

It is in Italy and I have already found new information about my great grandfather's family.  Haven't found any other wikitreers with family in Udine yet, but I will!!

I thought I was going to lose internet due to the price increase but evidently they have decided to keep the price the same, give us a new modem, and increase the speed. I guess they still want their money. That means I will be able to keep updating our spreadsheet/livechat.

http://tinyurl.com/Doctorsheet spreadsheet
http://prntscr.com/hk72jy instructions

The top link IS the spreadsheet and the bottom link is a screenshot with instructions how to use the sheet. Currently it has the Global Suggestions report, Unsourced links by Geographical location, the Weekly Challenge which is the spot for Data Doctors, Working on to let us know what you are currently doing if you wish, Info with tips and links to help you with your bio sections, the England sticker run to fix a specific bot run, and a couple random tabs for testing stuff out.

Feel free to visit us in chat but you will be assigned a random animal each visit unless I get your email that is used for a chrome, google, or yahoo account.

The sheet doesn't replace the reports that  Aleš Trtnik  does but it does use those reports and allows us to track progress and make notes. The built-in chat doesn't replace the weekend chat either because you have to physically be in the chat to see any messages. But it is good fun on the occasion we have socialized in real-time there.

Personally I am getting burned out with winter, cold weather, feeling sick, being unemployed, working to pay only my lot rent, and feeling that I am running hard just to stay in the same spot. But in the grand scheme of things it is better to be a low ahnentafel number in my own tree. lol Any day you aren't breathing dirt is a day to be thankful for.

I hope you all have a great weekend and I'd love to bump into you in chat. :D

Thanks Steven for making this available.
Thank you Steven
Ditto to what everyone said. Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.

Just a quick check in this morning while I still can before the grandchildren take over the computers.  I have made a couple of edits this morning but the day is about to get busy. We will be leaving in about an hour to go do some shopping and have the one grandson's glasses adjusted. We will then be checking out a couple of houses nearby with the thought of moving again, hopefully for the last time. I am not sure exactly how long this will take but I hope to be able to get back and work on my genealogy sometime later this afternoon. Well I guess I better get moving to cook breakfast and change soon so that we can get the kids moving.

Mine are still to young to really take the computer over but they get jealous and want to sit in my lap if I am using it!

On Tuesday, visiting the National Archives to check up some basic stuff about the First World War, I came up instead with three boxes containing bags made of sacking that were full of family documents from a 1704 Chancery court case.  The good news was that, whilst there must have been getting on for a hundred documents dating back a century or more, which will take ages to process (including a rather beautiful map of Mayfield village in Sussex, mounted on wooden rollers), there was an easily readable will from a propertied relative who died in 1663 leaving a long list of bequests to extended family members.  The bad news was that this implied some painstaking corrections to three generations of family.  I'm slightly apprehensive about what further revisions future visits to this little goldmine are going to entail.

Chris that is a wonderful find!  Yes quite the goldmine!   Keep us posted with anything you think might be of interest to others researching in that same area.
Ditto to both your Chris and Laura. Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
I can somewhat relate, but my revisions came from a fact I never knew, My family last name came from the "Baril" surname and I always wondered why I couldn't connect to other great grand father until this discoverly.

But in the end, isn't it great that your future ancestors will have the correct info and so will other genealogists searching, and who knows what other connections may come from it. Congratulations and Good Luck Chris!!!
Hi Chris, that's really exciting. What a treasure find. Much better to have the correct information, even if it is a lot of work to sort it all out!

Thank you for hosting Laura!

Not too much going on in Kentucky this week. We had one decent day this week (weather-wise), and then it went back to cold and snow. The one decent day was supposed to be spent grand-baby shopping, but my dentist decided to pull a wisdom tooth. That kind of put my WT work on slow mode. I did get some time in, first, adding Hawaii profiles. I'm hoping to add more, and try to connect more of them. Hopefully, the end result will be I'll find the missing connections with a few cousins :D I also want to get back to cleaning up some of the PGM profiles, they are a lot of fun.

The grand-baby, by the way, is due in April. I'm SO excited! Out of my six grandchildren, only one is a girl. This one is a girl, so I'm having fun with the shopping! Oh - and I started a quilt for her this week. Been a long time since I quilted, so I'm looking forward to it. Her momma is not big on pink, so I tried to find a nice mix of other colors that will still suit a girl. Hopefully it turns out great.

Mindy that is great news about the coming granddaughter!   I had 2 sons and now have 2 granddaughters (one in each son's families).  The youngest spent the night last night and is right now playing peekaboo around the love seat in our family room with Grandpa....

I used to look for the ugliest stuff and my sons loved it.  Now I get to look for the cutest stuff and the granddaughters love it!  The oldest one is 5 going on 30 as she is very much into science and highly verbal.  The youngest is 10 months and starting to almost walk on her own and babbling which sometimes is understandable words.

I am sure she will love and treasure the quilt!
Mindy that is great news about the coming granddaughter. Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Love Month Weekend WikiTree Chat.
I have five daughters Laura :D

Don't ya just LOVE them grandbabies?!
Yep Grandma is the best title I have ever had!
Mindy We have 8 Grandchildren between the ages of 21 and 11. Out of those 4 are girls and the youngest granddaughter. the 11 year old spent the night Friday night along with her 15 year old brother. She wants to do everything for others and when she is here she tries to fix meals for me whenever she can and then she jumps in and cleans up afterward. She told us we had to go shopping soon because we only had 1 piece of her favorite lunch meat left, Bologna and we do not eat that much unless she is here.
How lucky you are Dale! And the youngest cleans up without being asked? Good kid. Better get her some Bologna ;)
Mindy we do keep Bologna in the house for her. It is my fault that is her favorite lunch. When she was a preschooler I babysat for her while I was unemployed and everyone else worked and I bought that for her lunches because it was cheap. Now she won't eat anything else if she can find that.
Dale I bet part of the love of Bologna for her is the great memories of eating it with Grandpa.   There are foods that to this day cause me to think of my long dead grandparents because it is something we ate together a lot.

Food brings great memories!  And foods are often an integral part of our family traditions.
I know that Laura, She always wants pancakes for breakfast when she is visiting us because that is another thing I started her on. She eats twice as much as I do but moves around so much that she is skinny so all is good. She also has adopted a small blanked my sister made for me because when she was at our house I used to cover her with it when she took a nap so "My" Blanket has become "Hers" .
Precious memories!   Great job Grandpa!
Very precious!!
