Why is BOLD format for "Her Obituary" not recognized as a change and not saved?

The format change appears to work (as it shows in the Preview), but when I attempt to save the change, I get the message "You have not made any changes to save", and later indeed the BOLD format does not appear.

...I've found some things like that that don't save, such as installing ref tags and nothing else.  The 'go around' is to add a comment in the "explain your changes" box and that does it.
Thanks. Yes, I have concluded that someother change is required for the edit session to be recognized as a change.

Hi, Deanna--great question!

Were you using the regular html coding for bold text, such as <b>text</b>? If so, that's the problem, since WikiTree uses a different method for bold text involving inclusion of three single apostrophes like this '''text'''

Here's the WikiTree help page for editing tips that includes this and other gems you'll likely find useful:

Thanks for your reply.  (Deanna Nichols is the subject of the profile: I am Dwight Childers.)

I highlighted the phrase "Her Obituary"  (already italicized) in the bio and then clicked the bolding tool just above the editing box. It proved in the "Preview" but was not recognized as a change and thus not actually saved.

Earlier, I had italicized the phrase using the tool bar, but the end result is the 5 apostrophes describing in the Editing Tips.

Just now, I tried deleting an extra space from the bio. That was recognized as a change and saved, and now I see that "Her Obituary" is both bold and italic as I wanted.

Can it be that the change process does not recognize a Toolbar action alone?
Hi, Dwight! Yes, I think you're on to something, and perhaps the change process does not recognize a toolbar action alone

I think edits made with the toolbar don't register as edits.  This also means you can't undo them with ctrl-Z.

This could vary between browsers.

The workaround is just to make some other minor change before saving.

Thanks. I was working toward that conclusion already, and am glad to have it confirmed.
