Can anyone help me find the ancestors of Mary Steininger b. Sept o1, 1915 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, USA; d. July 27, 1985 in Detroit, Michigan. Was married to a John Frank Benkovsky b. Oct 16, 1913 in New York, USA. They were divorced and he remarried. Mary's father was a Jerry Steininger and her mother's name may have been Mary as well. Not sure of heritage or whether or not they were immigrants. Possibly Swedish or other? Any ideas? Seems to be a dead end. Thank you!

Jerry Steininger's Draft Registration: familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J4SK-5FB

The draft registration shows Jerry S.'s birth date. Do you know what state, county and or city he was born in?

Thank you so much Frank! I have looked and looked and it seemed there were so many of these guys that I think I just got blinded by them! A fresh pair of eyes always seems to help and I think you just put me back on the right path! You also just tied me back into the Benkovksy name, which I really needed (and I see that the family's adament assertion that they ALWAYS spelled their name with a "v" never a "w" is incorrect as well!). Everything adds up now. The family I am working with on this only knew the Benkovksy line was from Czechoslavkia but had no clue on the Steininger name, although they did suspect German origins...Thanks so much! (I may ask for your help again! : )   Patti
Hi Frank, I didn't know exactly where he was from and I didn't know much else other than his name but with your source I finally had a birthdate. With that in hand I found something interesting-Index card to Naturaizaton Petition. Although I am not positive it is his, I am suspicious....The name on the card says Jerry Steininger AND it looks like he changed it from the his original name of Jaroslav Steininger. I found the passnger listand it looks like he immigrated June 9, 1910 on the ship the "President Lincoln" and he was a journeyman shoemaker. He was single when he immigrated. He was listed as Bohemian. Now I need to see if this guy married a "Mary" (last name unknown) in theUS  and this might be my guy.... Patti
