Greeters Project Recruitment Drive! Would you like to be a Greeter? [closed]

Question

Hi, WikiTreers!  We're looking for a few helpful and enthusiastic folks to join our Greeters Project.

What we do:  WikiTree Greeters are the first point of contact for new members.  There are two groups of tasks: (1) posting welcome messages to Guests and confirming genuine volunteers, and (2) posting follow-up messages to members at the one-week mark.  Greeters also answer basic questions about using WikiTree and help new members get connected with the right people when they need help.  

Qualifications:

• Greeters must be at least 18 years old, a WikiTree member for more than 30 days, and have at least 100 non-GEDCOM contributions
• Must be able to edit a profile, post messages, and use e-mail
  Must demonstrate public communications in line with the Honor Code
• Must be willing to communicate with other Greeters on a regular basis and stay up-to-date on project news and changes
• A sense of humour helps, but isn't required.  :)

Time Commitment:  About an hour per week.  Many people do more.  Totally up to you!

Support:  We'll train you one-on-one at whatever pace you're comfortable with.  We also have a friendly/fun/extremely active Google Group where you can ask questions and get feedback from experienced Greeters at any time.

Thanks Vicki for posting this, we really really need some additional greeters.. pleassee!!!! It is a great way to make new acquaintances and perhaps lasting friendships especially if you find out a distant cousin or two, joins. I have!!

One more LOL I love being a follow up messenger. It's so much fun. I get to see the enthusiasm of those who are loving WikiTree and having a good time. I also get a chance to interact with those who are struggling a bit. It's so rewarding to be able to give a little assistance and help them get headed in the right direction..

Wow, what a great opportunity!  Being a Greeter has taught me more about how to use WikiTree than any other experience here within the last 4 years!  So, not only is it fun, but you get to learn about stuff too.

It is a very worthwhile endeavor. I was a greeter in the past and would do it again but I just don't have the time right now.

My confidence with using wikitree grows everyday and; although I work full time I log on everyday and would love to contribute more. So if you will have me I would happily volunteer to greet newcomers and help them start on their wikitree journey?

I would love to greet new wikitreers and old ones alike. The older wikitreers have helped me to add sources to my profiles. Adding sources to my profiles is next to impossible, since I am using my phone for everything.

I wanna be a Greeter!

Oh wait, I already am!

Not only is greeting a fun activity, I've learned a lot about WikiTree in general as a result. Lately, we've seen more and more of an international presence, which is really cool.

Even though greeting is fun to do, we always need new Greeters, because we are covering 168 one-hour slots per week. Even if Greeters can't commit to a specific time, they can jump in and cover when they have a spare hour (or even 15 minutes) here and there.

And any former Greeters who have thought about coming back to the project, now's a great time!

It is fun and a great learning experience to boot. I am one of the newest greeters and one of those Greeters that doesn't have a set time I jump on when needed. Which seems to fit better for me. I sometimes get lost in it and before you know it I have greeted for 4 or 5 hours. Lol I am so glad I decided to join and love our group of quirky, fun fellow greeters. Most of all we have some amazing teachers to train you to be the best greater you can be!! What a better way to spread the WikiTree love than being the first point of contact to our newbies!!

I used to be a Greeter but took a break can I volunteer to cover one of the Open hours on a Wednesday as from week commencing 9 July.

I am in the UK so can cover some of the time from 1100 UTC.

Eeks! I’ve been asked three times, and like they say: third time’s the charm. The most recent request to from was from David, and I would like for him to train me. He has already said he would be glad to. Is that okay?

I'm so glad that you've decided to join us, Pip. One of the leaders who handle training for Greeter duties will get with you shortly. If you decide you want to do Week 1 or Pre-1700 messages, let me know as I do the training on those.
