Should I replace a listed wife with a different one? [closed]

In sourcing William Henderson Maltby-2033 I found two well informed histories of Corpus Christi, Texas, that are kept in the library and are quoted

I can find no information concerning a Mary Mckiney-3.  Mary Grace Swift
married him in 1860 and died in a yellow fever epidemic in 1867 or 68, leaving him with two small children.  In the 1870 census they were living in the home of a  S. S. Swift.  In 1870 he married Anna Maria Headen and apparently had at least a daughter, Marjorie, by her.  (See flag donation paragraph).  I propose replacing Mary McKiney with Swift and Headen.  Any opinions?

I think the first thing you need to figure out is if William Henderson Maltby is the same person as William Jeff Maltby.  There is already a note on the profile indicating that they are not the same person. Also, the 1860 US Census record you added to this profile indicates that William Henderson was a printer, while his older brother was an editor. That doesn't sound like the same person as an Indian fighter . And nothing in the Corpus Christi articles indicate that William Henderson Maltby was an Indian fighter. He sounds like a townsperson to me, not a real, fighting soldier. I think you are conflating two profiles, so IMHO I think you need to create or find the proper profile for William Henderson Maltby to add your info to and don't add it to the profile of Jeff Maltby.

As a matter of fact, if you read Capt. Jeff's book, you will discover on p. 112 that he was employed by the U.S. government in the year 1850.  And in 1858 he married in Burnet County, Texas and continued living there.  William Jeff Maltby is clearly NOT  William Henderson Maltby of Corpus Christi. There are several William Maltby profiles on WikiTree.  Perhaps you can find the right one.

I appreciate your interest in my dilemma with William Maltby.  I was not the
person thinking Willam Henderson and William Jeff were the same person.
I accept the differences as two profiles.   It clearly tells he wrote his  book
using the pen name Captain Jeff.  It appears he was a staunch southern
supporter, becoming a Captain in the Confederate army when he was captured and held prisoner.  I suspect his Democratic leanings may have
given him the inclination to use Jefferson Davis'  name as his pen name (pure speculation).   His book was about stories of the Texas Rangers in their fights to protect the farmers.  Some of the stories apparently included whoever killed the Kiawa chief.  I can't find a computerized version of the book.  All that said, it raises an interesting conjecture that
Mary McKiney may be the wife of this William Jeff Maltby.  I will take that
as a possibility to follow up.  Thank you for your response and interest.

I went to Mary McKinney's profile and followed up on the resources listed
on familysearch.com. for her.  My above conjecture is CORRECT.  She was the wife of William Jefferson Maltby and had eight children by him and was still alive in an 1880 census.  Problem solved!!
