The Canadian place names spreadsheet has been updated with new Native American places. As always, if anyone sees a mistake, etc please let me know so I can address it.

Both spreadsheets have been formatted to make them easier to use.

Please also remember, the Colonial American Place Names space and spreadsheets are designed to assist  in selecting a place name based on the specific dates. It is not meant to dictate place names in Wikitree.

I'm looking into it right now.
Somehow the sheet was put in the trash, but I've moved it out of the trash and you can access it again.
It looks great! Thanks again, it was really useful for my Newfoundland and Nova Scotia categories.
Had me worried there Barry. LOL Thought there was 1 too many ungrateful people and you chucked it all. Either that or you were working on it 3/4 asleep again and hit the wrong key.
Sorry, I was busy yesterday and didn't see the comments until this morning.
thanks again for your work on this
My pleasure!

Barry and I are currently working on the AMERICAN one HERE

Once it is done it will be moved over.

wow this is super awesome guys!  so useful for my tree - I will be on it all weekend changing my place names for all my fam!
Thanks for the support everybody!

I also found this interactive map for state and county boundaries for the United States.

http://publications.newberry.org/ahcbp/index.html

I haven't found one that covers Canada yet.

Very cool, Steven! How is it I never saw that, and I've been to the Newberry? Bookmarked now; thanks!

Stephen this link will work for Canada. It isn't as cool as the one you found bit it'll work https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_evolution_of_Canada

If you're looking to add more specific info for provinces, my free space page Manitoba Genealogical Research has some info on the changing borders and names of Manitoba in the "History and Changing Borders" section.

thanks so much Lianne - very helpful
Thanks Lianne, There is a link in your space that takes you to Wikipedia. I like the link to Territorial evolution of North America since 1763. I guess I have a lot of work to do. Thanks Lianne.

The Canada spreadsheet has undergone a lot of work over on the spreadsheet we do our weekly challenges on. Barry has slaved hard and I cracked the whip a few times. Here is hoping everyone gives a big appreciation for all the work he has done.

well I for one can surely appreciate this - my moms mom came in on the Canadian side - her tree takes us to the early Neuvelle (or is it Neuveau) France thing and before that, while her dads side comes from the Dutch that started New Netherland - later to become New York - so I need a lot of these references to get my tree in tip top shape

The Space:Colonial_American_Place_Names has been updated with a new and improved Canadian spreadsheet called the Canadian Provincial Place Names found at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19msdf4uzxBiyIwCSNUBcrHt15Qp-DXpGxBYLp3YWDO0/edit#gid=1390013396

The original Colonial Era Canadian Place Names has been retired and will no longer be updated but is still available for anyone who wishes to use it. The new spreadsheet features a new format which is easier to use and understand. It also makes visualization of the historical evolution of the current Canadian Provinces easier to follow. Another feature is the listing of all Native American peoples for each province as well a "History" link to take you to the Native Languages of the Americas hosted by most Native American tribes of Canada. I hope you like it. A special thanks goes out to Steven Tibbetts for helping me create this new format.
