I've added some new categories and free spaces for pre- and colonial-Newfoundland

I'm trying my best to get some sensible category and free-space structure for colonial Newfoundland and Nova Scotia (see some of my other recent posts). Accordingly, I've created a new category: Newfoundland Colony covering the years 1610-1907, and a corresponding free space page. Hopefully this is all sensible, and if it conflicts with any other projects, please let me know so I can delete/change as necessary.

What we should have is a chain of categories:

  • Newfoundland and Labrador - for events from December 6, 2001 (when the name of the province was changed) to the present
  • Newfoundland - for events from March 31, 1949 to December 6, 2001
  • Dominion of Newfoundland - for events from 26 September 1907 to March 31, 1949
  • Colony of Newfoundland - for events prior to 26 September 1907
Each category in the chain should link to the categories which precede and follow it. The Colony of British Columbia category has multiple examples of those types of links.

Oh wow, that's excellent. I never saw, before, how to *link* to a category. I'll go through my new categories and change the links from free spaces to categories.

I really like the Colony of British Columbia category, except I personally think a lot of that information should be on the free space profile, not a category page. I'd prefer not to see more than a couple of sentences (basically location, and start and end dates) on a historical place category. But that's just me, and if everyone decides to do something different, of course that's fine.

You're right about the progression from Newfoundland Colony, to Dominion of Newfoundland, to Newfoundland, to Newfoundland and Labrador... I hadn't realised it was only Newfoundland and Labrador after 2001. I've been sticking 'Newfoundland and Labrador' on all my post-1949 profiles. Now I'm going to have to go back and change them.

I'll make the Dominion of Labrador, and Newfoundland (Canada) categories and free space pages myself. Or, if you want to go ahead---please do. I'm working on Nova Scotia right now.
Okay, I've set up the chain of categories, and the corresponding (stub) free spaces as you said, Greg. I'll still need to go through and set up appropriate administrative/census sub-districts in each category. But it's a lot better than what was there. Now back to Nova Scotia :/
