Orphan Profiles

I apolozise for the long message and if the information can be found here. But I am frustrated but several issues I find on Wikitree.

I extracted 100 Austin names from the Orphan Profiles. All 100 were created by a gencom import. None of the imports were recent.

I adopted a few names, mainly to correct an Unknown Profile. I edited

Question 1 - Why was a profile adopted several times but the manager "disappeared"? Can one adopt a profile and not edit it then disappear?

Question 2 - If there is a relation to the orphan and this profile has a manager why does this manager not adopt the profile?

Question 3 - If there is a gencom import done after I have created a profile and it created a new profile that should be merged with one of my profiles, is there any way to locate and merge the profiles?

Question 4 - Is there a guide to the editing of the information that comes from a gencom with sources from Ancestry? ie * Source: S153465192 U.S., New England Marriages Prior to 1700 Ancestry.com Publication: Ancestry.com Operations Inc Note:

To answer:

1 and 2. Anyone can adopt a profile. Sometimes we adopt and make changes, sometimes we adopt with hopes of finding sources to improve, but find nothing and we orphan it again. There is nothing wrong with this. Our watchlist size should be UNDER 5000 profiles, so we orphan profiles to keep our watchlists manageable.

3. You can use the "find matches and merges" link at the bottom of the profile to search for matching profiles. A list will come up. By no means is it comprehensive because it depends on how much information is in the profile you use to search with.

4. This is the way I learned to clean gedcoms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gJMhj-93fw Julie is a great teacher!

Hope this helps some.

I AM NOT ALONE!

I can't pass these poor people up! I adopt fix and then stack them neatly in my family tree like ornaments at Christmas...(maybe in the hope I white elephant them? I don't know)

I'm getting little on my to do list done because I'm OCD! I can not simply fix the goal and move on. I have to connect them. Find their parents, children, siblings....It is a friggin drop in a pond.

My peeps! I found you! Hello, where's the bar?
