Seeking parents of Robert Adams who married Nancy Andrus

Hello ...I have been searching for the parents of Robert Adams born about 1776. In the book a "Growth of a Century" history of Jefferson County, New York it states that Elijah Adams, son of Robert Adams and Nancy Andrus came from Vermont to Rutland, NY in 1803 to Hounsfield, NY and then to the town of Alexandria, NY in 1824. Robert and Nancy had sons: Robert,John, Elijah and Samuel, and a daughter who died young. In the death  record of Samuel it is written that his father Robert was born in Lyndon, VT. I have not found any Adams in Lyndon, VT but I have found some in other areas of Vermont. I am currently researching the family line of George Adams and Eleanor (maybe Wilmont) as it appears some members of this line did move to Vermont, generations later, but I am not finding a name of Robert as an ancestor that fits a possible date range. In some ancestry trees I see that others have his parents as John Adams/Mary Crane, but I do not think this is correct. In the genealogy of the Crane Family they are listed and their surviving children are females. Ideas, suggestions?

I don't understand your comment about the Crane Family having only females (surviving)--Mary is a surviving female so how does that make John/Mary not likely parents of Robert? 

To my mind, that is your likely line. The 4 sons you found in the Jefferson Co. book are among other children I find on Ancestry.com as children of Robert/Nancy. (But of course more evidence is needed.) 

Do you have a good handle on the geography of Lydon VT to guide your searching? Wikipedia says The town of Lydon contains one incorporated village, Lyndonville, and three unincorporated villages: Lyndon, Lyndon Center, and East Lyndon.

I haven't found any Roberts in my line from immigrant George Adams of Massachusetts Bay Colony..

In the genealogy of the Crane Family I found John Adams who married Mary Crane and had  3 children that appear to make it to adulthood. These 3 children were all females. With that being said, if John is the father of Robert, there is no other documentation of a male child(Robert) The other children that are associated to Robert Adams in family trees on ancestry are incorrect. The one thing that would make me think that John who married Mary Crane could be the father of John is the location of Wethersfield, CT as it is rumored that Robert was born in Wethersfield.

I am currently trying to find some information about the history of Lyndon, VT. With that being said, St Johnsbury, VT, which is in the same county as Lyndon-Caledonia county- there were 4 Adams men that were part of the founders of St Johnsbury along with some other men. I have not found a Robert Adams  so far.

Just to clarify on my comment about the other children associated to Robert Adams on ancestry. I have  seen  several trees list children of Solomon and Abigail and others as the children of Robert. These children are associated with the family of Henry Adams.

Yes this is correct. Robert Adams who married Nancy Andrus are both buried there. His son John Adams who married Sarah A Thrasher are also buried there. John and Sarah's daughter Susan who married Alexander Mcdonald is also buried there.

Thank you for the info. It certainly is interesting. I am not aware of a daughter born named Patty. Perhaps she died? This location could be a hint though. 

The first census in Jefferson county, NY was in 1810. Robert is found as head of household in Hounsfield, NY with 2 males under the age of 10 (sons Robert and John), male age 26-45 (Robert) female under the age of 10 (daughter Genea? who died young) and female 26-45 (wife Nancy)

I have not found him in the 1820 census and he is in the town of Alexandria for the 1830 and 1840 census.  This correlates with the info found in The Growth of a Century. "Robert Adams and Nancy Andrus, came from Vermont, where they were married in 1790, to Rutland in 1803, thence to Houndsfield, and moved into the town of Alexandria in 1824."

There are several other Adams families that settled in the area as well, which I am working on those lines to see if they intersect somewhere.
