I would like to see if I'm related to John Bruce Douglas (abt. 1694 - 1761).

I came across a WikiTree conversation about John Bruce Douglas (abt. 1964 - 1761). He lived in Campbell County, Virginia. I have researched his family through the Campbell Chronicles and Family Sketches book. I understand he freed his slaves, but his descendants had slaves. I traced my family back to Campbell County, Virginia and I believe I have a great-great grandfather who was at his descendants plantation. My descendant was born about 1845. I had my DNA test conducted by Ancestry DNA and a portion of my origin goes back to Scotland. How can I upload my results to compare to his descendants?  I want to see if I am related to John Bruce Douglas?

Hello Lewis, The first step would be to become a member of Wikitree. I have added the greeters tag to your post so someone should be along to help you soon.
John Bruce's brother, John McKeand Douglas, is my 6th GGF.  Another wikitreer, Willie Douglass (Douglass-1721)  is descended from John Bruce.  He and I are 8th cousins, 1x removed.
Thanks!
Thank you.
Lewis:

Wikitree is a great way to have your matches connect with you.

Ancestry does Autosomal DNA, so you have some sources there to work with. Select your first match, and then select ‘Shared Matches’in the three boxes to see who shares your match.  Then work your way down through each closest match.

You can use the search box and enter maternal or paternal names, and/or

state.  When you look at your matches, there is a ‘Confidence’ line.If you select that little “i” -in that circle, you will see how many centimorgansyou share.  The higher number, the closer the relation.

Play with the AncestryDNA, and also put a gedcom on Wikitree.  You should find some kin.

Lewis, we’d love to help! Our DNA project has some excellent researchers, and we’re meeting new cousins all the time.

Lynda has the right idea. Have you created an account on WikiTree? See

Hello Lewis

I may be able to help you.  My YDNA kit tested 36/37 markers when compared with a YDNA kit of a submitter that is believed to be a direct male descendant of John Bruce Douglas.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions or comments.
