I wanted to share this family photo of Leonora Armstrong with the community. Location: On board the S.S. Vasari. Taken sometime at sea between 15 Jan 1921 after departing from New York and 1 February on arrival in Rio de Janeiro. Leonora was the first Baha'i to live on the continent of South America, and ended up living in Brazil for 60 years. She went alone without knowing any Portuguese or Spanish, and taught herself. Her first job was teaching English. Later she founded a school and orphanage in Salvador, Bahia. She translated all the Baha'i writings into Portuguese over the years, continuing to do so until her dying breath.  She was much loved and revered.  There is a street named after her in Manuas, and dozens of girls named Leonora after her memory.

Thank you, Jerry!  Yes, she was only 25 and went against her father's wishes, buying a one way passage to Rio!
and an Adventurous, Independent and Goal Actualizing Person ! Vive La Leonora .. Somehow I believe her father was proud of her.

Thank you for a great share ..
