The England Project is looking for YOU [closed]

Hello WikiTreers,

The England Project is looking for people who are interested in England, have English Ancestors, or who would just like to come and help in the project.

Our project members are dedicated, friendly people whose main goal is to improve, source and generally make sure that England profiles are accurate and presented to a high standard, which honours the person.

It doesn't matter if you are an experienced WikiTreer or have just joined and are still finding your way around, you will be given as much support as you need whilst you get used to the intricacies of English records and the nuances of the towns and cities.

Your first stop would be our newly formed Orphans Team, where you would work on England orphaned profiles that are in need of some TLC. Hone your skills and maybe learn new ones, as you settle in and meet our members. From there the sky is the limit. We have a number of sub projects which you could join, from helping with a county or working on profile improvement by sourcing, connecting and biography writing to develop profiles of a high standard.

Remember, every snippet of sourced information added to a profile brings it to life.

You will be awarded the United Kingdom badge when you join and also be invited to join our google group.

Follow the tags for United_Kingdom and England so you can keep up to date.

If you are new to WikiTree and have not become a full member, you will need to volunteer and sign our Honor Code to receive your wiki genealogist badge, which is a necessity for editing profiles.

Remember, you can still use the {{England Sticker}} for people born in England and {{English Ancestor Sticker}} on your own profile.

If this opportunity interests you, then please click the ANSWER button.

P.S. Check out our England Project page to learn more.

PLEASE NOTE THIS THREAD IS NOW CLOSED. TO JOIN THE ENGLAND PROJECT PLEASE GO HERE: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/612872/how-to-join-the-england-project

Yes, you can include in in the Orphans team.

My reluctance to get too involved in Wikitree projects is that I'm in my mid-eighties, have the profiles of over 652 of my wife's and my "cousins and aunts etc" in Wikitree already and am busy getting as many more of them up as I can before I "cark it"!

But yes, I agree with all that the England project is about. - Fleming-5947

Yes. I would appreciate becoming involved and a member of the "England Project". Most of my ancestors migrated to the United States from England, and I have been involved in improving the profiles of many of these folks. There are a lot of blanks in the family tree, and it is a challenge to tie everyone together, sourced.

With the majority of my ancestors in both my direct lineage and in my extended family being of English birth, who at sometime in their combined lives, have lived in just about every English county. I would like to help out with the England Project as this is where the majority of my research is based and I feel that I can be of assistance.

I have researched in Hampshire, Somerset, Devon, Dorset, in each place back to the 17th century or earlier. However my contacts with the record offices in these places have aged out. I would like to acquaint myself with the types of records other Project members have access to. But as a matter of course, I do not subscribe to paywall sites; I mainly use Internet search, FamilySearch, books out ot copyright and freely available, census records still free, and transcriptions of Old Parochial Records online and still free. Hopefully you could point me to many other such resources. Then I would be happy to do lookups and help make sound connections in profiles in need of help.

Hi Helen and welcome to Wikitree :) We would love to welcome you into the project, so I will be contacting you via PM shortly.

Helen, I really need help!

I'm sooo intimidated by all these highly experienced experts here on WikiTree.

It's absolutely clear they are quite a gentle sort and remember when they were newborns too.  Still, I feel so out of my league!

Currently, most of my time is spent re-doing my handful of ancestor's profiles to conform to WikiTree standards and format.

If you're willing, I can sure use a guardian angel looking over my shoulder to help me begin taking baby steps.
