Hello WikiTreers,

The England Project is looking for people who are interested in England, have English Ancestors, or who would just like to come and help in the project.

Our project members are dedicated, friendly people whose main goal is to improve, source and generally make sure that England profiles are accurate and presented to a high standard, which honours the person.

It doesn't matter if you are an experienced WikiTreer or have just joined and are still finding your way around, you will be given as much support as you need whilst you get used to the intricacies of English records and the nuances of the towns and cities.

Your first stop would be our newly formed Orphans Team, where you would work on England orphaned profiles that are in need of some TLC. Hone your skills and maybe learn new ones, as you settle in and meet our members. From there the sky is the limit. We have a number of sub projects which you could join, from helping with a county or working on profile improvement by sourcing, connecting and biography writing to develop profiles of a high standard.

Remember, every snippet of sourced information added to a profile brings it to life.

You will be awarded the United Kingdom badge when you join and also be invited to join our google group.

Follow the tags for United_Kingdom and England so you can keep up to date.

If you are new to WikiTree and have not become a full member, you will need to volunteer and sign our Honor Code to receive your wiki genealogist badge, which is a necessity for editing profiles.

Remember, you can still use the {{England Sticker}} for people born in England and {{English Ancestor Sticker}} on your own profile.

If this opportunity interests you, then please click the ANSWER button.

P.S. Check out our England Project page to learn more.

PLEASE NOTE THIS THREAD IS NOW CLOSED. TO JOIN THE ENGLAND PROJECT PLEASE GO HERE: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/612872/how-to-join-the-england-project

I have some Brick Walls which I have never been able to breach - and probably never will. One is for a father who died before his (at least called his) sons were born!

Did solve a 25 year old mystery about my husband's grandmother.

Have been researching for over 60 years but still learning.

I'd like to join the England project.  Although I'm now living in Scotland my main lines are from Cornwall,  Derbyshire/Leicestershire and Essex, with just one line from early Scotland.  I feel my strengths are in sourcing - I don't let go until I've found as many records as possible ;)  I've also taken on many orphans form Cornwall (Henwoods) and Kent (Coppins) and given them as full a profile as I can.

Hi Christine, we would love to have you involved. I will be in contact via pm shortly.

I’ve been working on linking all Treloar families from Wendron Cornwall based on baptism, marriage and burial records from https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org I’ve set up a sub project at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Treloar%2C_Trelowarth_Family_of_Wendron%2C_Cornwall%2C_England and would love it to be included as a sub project of the England Project.  There is still a long way to go. Is anyone else interested in joining me?

by Deborah Talbot G2G6 Mach 7 (70.4k points)
Hi Deborah, We would love you to be involved in the project and we can certainly add your sub project into the County. I will be in contact via pm shortly.

Have traced my ancestors to Benjamin Chapman - Thomas Chapman, Thomas II, Thomas III, Thomas IV, Thomas V, Samuel, ... From what I understand, Benjamin was a nephew of Sir Walter Raleigh, ward of Cromwell. I am sort of lost on Benjamin’s father - my research shows William, but the death date is prior to Benjamin’s birth, so have questions there.

Hi Marilee, We would love to have you in the project, and i am sure the Orphan trail will help you further your research in other places :) I will be in contact via pm shortly

I am Birchby-2 on WikiTree and would be very pleased to join the England Project and assist in areas where I can be useful, eg in writing biographies.

My main interests are the surnames on my Watch List, particularly Birchby of Lancashire (my immediate family), Duell of Stafforshire, Finch of London, and Whaley of Lincolnshire, and the migration of English people to South Australia, which includes all of my ancestors.

Hi Wendy,

I'm relatively new to WikiTree and I seem to be inching towards pre-1700 profile creation/editing.  I've read the pre-1700 requirements which is why you've found me here.

I have 17 years of genealogical research to add (and I'm also collaborating with another member to add sources to the profiles he has created and improving profiles I stumble across) so time is a little... tight.  I would, however, like to collaborate with members with experience in the counties I'm working on and especially where PRs are known to have not survived.  For example, I'm currently trying to untangle a family which has been propagated on Ancestry with baptism records from several parishes but where the PRs from one parish are known to have not survived from the time period in question.  Nutting this out is something I'd like to get my teeth in to (this is mid-18C so not pre-1700 but father, Woodsford-11, may have been born in the late 1690s).

I have well-honed citation skills courtesy of a history degree and I'm currently crafting a WikiTree EndNote library. So, 'sourcing' could be a good fit for me.

Cheers,

Tamara
