Ancestry.com Users---There's another neat app out there!

Question

There is a relationship finder app powered by Ancestry.com called, "We're Related" that I think is fun to use. It shows your connection to famous and notable people of all walks of life, living and dead.

But before you get too excited, this article does suggest that you verify your found connections with your Ancestry tree and taking a DNA test helps too. I have used that  app for over a year.  It is fun to use but I take it with a grain of salt. I would say of all the people it says I'm related to it is correct about 10% of the time. I research the lines with various sources. I can tell most of the time just by looking that names don't fit with my family tree going back 7 or 8 generations.

It is only reliable as the trees of the contributors, so it produces a lot of incorrect relations.

I have used it for about a year also I change whether I link my name or my husband to it. I tried for my kids, but got a lot less "hints". I have followed the research and successfully linked Tennessee Williams, George C. Scott, and William Bradford. Most of the same names come up for my husband and I ---- so I definitely only look at those that I already know most of the my line is what I have already proven. I have also completely proven a couple are not linked - at least not the way the app indicates. It's interesting entertainment.
