Help on categories for Marjory Stoneman Douglas

In the wake of last week's shooting at Stoneman Douglas HS in Florida, an old friend shared an article about the school's namesake Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Although she had a WikeTree profile, it didn't reflect the remarkable woman, aka "The Grand Dame of the Everglades." I've added additional info to the profile. What's missing is the categories. I'm not that good at finding categories I don't use all the time; when I go to the "Find Categories" page, I have no idea where to click through for Presidential Medal of Freedom; Stoneman Douglas was awarded one, and don't we have a category for that? In her younger years, she was an activist for women's suffrage, too. Don't we have a category for that?

Which is to say: This is an open invitation to add categories to her profile. Here's a paragraph I added to the profile:

In 1917, Marjory, along with three other women, made the long trek from Miami to the Florida state capitol, Tallahassee, for the cause of women gaining the vote. She described the experience in a 1983 interview: "We had to speak to a committee of the House, which we did. It was a big room with men sitting around two walls of it with spittoons between every two or three. And we had on our best clothes and we spoke, as we felt, eloquently, about women's suffrage and it was like speaking to blank walls. All they did was spit in the spittoons. They didn't pay any attention to us at all." Although the US Constitution was amended to allow women the vote in 1920, Florida did not ratify that amendment until 1969.

The school's website does not include info about the namesake, so who knows how much the students know about her. I imagine those who made the long trek to Tallahassee yesterday to see their legislators could relate to her experience.

Anyhow, again: Help with the categories would be great! And any tips as to how to find the proper name for categories like "Presidential Medal of Freedom" and "Suffragist" would be appreciated, too.

Many thanks to everyone who has worked on Marjory Stoneman Douglas' profile. She was a remarkable woman and it does WikiTree proud that her profile now reflects her extraordinary life.
You're welcome! I enjoyed reading up on her. If I ever find myself in Miami again, I think I'll want to check out her cottage.

First, I recommend adding the ACTIVISTS_AND_REFORMERS tag to this post.  There is a separate project for activists, and members of that project are likely to be able to provide more targeted feedback than the catch-all notables project.

I looked at Elizabeth Cady Stanton's profile, and it has some good examples of possibly applicable categories.

I also recommend adding the Centenarians category, as she did live to the impressive age of 108.  See link here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Centenarians

Thanks Greg. I did not think of Centenarians, but she certainly qualifies.

Just use the search under Find.  I found both easily.  I try to be pretty specific when searching for better results.

I will add the school category if it's not already there.

Terrific! Thanks!

I don't know much about Categories. Not beyond the ones I use often.

Just happened across this, so this is a late "answer." I think suffragist is fine IF she was active with the initial women's right to vote movement (maybe so, given her age?); if she was initially active after the movement (i.e., after women in the US gained the right to vote), is Feminist not a better option (and if that's not a category under Activists and Reformers, it should be), perhaps? Civil Rights includes voting rights post-suffragist (in the US).
Thanks for upgrading the profile. Well-deserved.
