He married Mary Jane Easterling the daughter of Joel L Easterling (Sheriff of Marlboro, S.C.).  She remarried after his death (His Sirname was Odom).  They had two Sons, Dixon John Fraser and William Boyce Fraser (my g.grand).  My family is mostly from the South Carolina area of Marlboro & Darlington  Counties.

I would love to know more of John Fraser and his mother Mary Fraser.  We do not know her maiden name, nor where she was from or what happened to her.  It is believed that he died in the Battle of Haw's Shop in 1864.from the 1850 and 1860 Census it looks like he was born in 1840.  In the 1850 census his mother, Mary was born in 1804 (from SC) and in the 1860, she was born in 1800 (from SC).  She is not listed in the 1840 census (which only lists head of households),   Mary's other Children are Mary Katherine Fraser (b. 1835ish) and Charles (b. 1830ish).

So far, I have found many John Fraser's all born around 1840 who fough in the the Civil War (3 from SC, 1 from NC, 1 from TN, 1 from TX, 1 from AL, 1 from CA, 1 from GA, 1 from NY, 1 from PA).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any sources that put him at the Battle of Haw's Shop, or linking him to his spouse or child(ren)? I checked over his profile and that of his linked relatives, but no sources have been added yet that would give any information for researchers to help with.

This is all I have.  http://genealogytrails.com/scar/marlboro/hx_confederate_war.htm

It may not be him.  No one in the family has any information.  He is listed down in Company E, 4th Cavalry.

If you look up Mary Jane Easterling Odom's Death Certificate,  you will find that it only says her 1st husband "John Fraser" died in the Civil War in Virginia.

They were parents of my G.G. Grandfather William Boyce Frasier of Bennettsville, SC (Marlboro County).  There is no information on him.  She lived 1845-1926 and William 1864-1930

My ancestorhttps://www.tngenweb.org/tipton/misc/ford.htm mentions in a letter loosing a John Frazer at the battle of Chickamuagua in 1864. Check out this link:

Hi Heather, that is such a valuable resource you have.  I loved reading it, and wanted it to be him.  Unfortunately, I dont think it is.  Mine died in the Battle of Hawes Shop in Virginia.  It look's like this one died in The Battle of Chicamaunga in TN.  It's truly amazing to me that there were so many John Fraser's born around 1840 that died in the Civil War.

Thank you again though.  I truly appreciate the post and your kindness.

The National Park Service website for Civil War Soldiers at https://www.nps.gov/civilwar/search-soldiers.htm lists several John Fraser’s from the Carolinas, as well as other places in the South. They are all identified by military unit.
