William Latham (Mayflower) - Robert Latham, b. 1623

The William Latham, who came on the Mayflower as a servant to John Carver, was approximately 11 years old in 1620.  He supposedly stayed for a number of years, then may have gone back to England and finally he supposedly died childless in the Bahamas in 1651.

The William in this profile died in 1651 in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and had a son Robert, b. 1623 who married Susanna Winslow.  Obviously a 1623 birth date would be impossible for the Mayflower immigrant's son.

Who was Robert Latham who married Susanna Winslow?

Robert has been separated from any parents, with a note in the Bio that his parentage is unknown.  If anyone has any sources for Robert's lineage, please contact one of the PMs or a member of the Puritan Great Migration project.
Grumble. Despite all this conversation AND the great narrative on his profile, someone came along last year and reattached William as father to Robert. Probably didn't want to lose the connection to the Mayflower.  I've re-detached him and requested PPP protection on Robert.

I found this: http://w.olddeadrelatives.com/getperson.php?personID=I12423&tree=main.  I haven't done any further research, but this seems like a good start.

If it's true, he has a gruesome history.

I see no source for his parentage in that link, Cathy. Did I miss something?

I looked through the NEHGS online databases, including Great Migration Begins, The American Genealogist, Mayflower Descendant and the Register, among other journals. Not a thing about his origins anywhere.

No, you didn't miss anything, but I thought that some of the information in the entry might lead to sources.  I like following the clues. smiley

I'm having difficulty finding much about him. This web site includes an un-authored analysis that concludes there is no definitive answer.

It is wikitree policy to detached unproven relationships, linking to relevant profiles in the narrative. Following that policy, this Robert should be detached from William, but a link retained in the narrative.
