Which particular Beans are you interested in and why do you think they went from England to Scotland?
angus macbean family.  my grandmother was told they originally came from england.  they settled in virginia, then tennessee, then texas.
I had this same response from my grandmother. But, from everything I've read about the MacBeans-- they've been consistently Scottish, except for those of us who descend from those who came to North America. Personally, I think a lot of it may have to do with anti-Irish, anti-Scottish sentiment of my grandmother's time.
I could be wrong.

The prefix 'Mac' is Gaelic, and means 'Son of'. Surely this is a native Scottish clan!

Many of the "Bean" family in North America (including Cananda) are the descendants of the Scots Clan MacBayne.

Here is my direct ancestor https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/MacBayne-2

No matter how the name was spelled, with or without the prefix of Mc Mac, etc. it was pronounced "Bain."

You are correct that there are many Bean families with English Ancestry. Since our Scottish ancestors were captured by the English, and brought to American as prisoners of war, and made indentured servants, their anglicized name is often spelled and pronounced with the long "e" sound, except by purists who know better.

were all of the macbean family members captured and brought to this country or did some "come on their own"?  my macbean family first came to virginia, then to tennessee, then to texas.  are you familiar with tulloch castle?
Yes, if you are interested in Tulloch castle, you may find something on this profile:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bayn-1

(In the sources, there are other links that you can click on to tell you more)  If you are a descendant of this family, and would like help researching your ancestral line, let me know.  I love to read about the family!  jan
