You go to source a profile you picked at random and you wind up creating 16 profiles to add to that persons family tree.  Not to mention you manage to connect them to another part of the tree.

I did that this morning.

Yes we do... all go a little mad sometimes. LOL!
Not that I do it for the recognition, I just like doing it and the new challenge, but I've done this sort of thing a number of times, added several profiles to a family group and then abandoned the profiles for others to take over.

But the sad part is, the majority of the time, I don't get a single thank you or even an acknowledgement by the profile owners.  And not all are inactive profile managers either.  Looking at their contributions, some are still quite active.

Me, I check my family activity feed daily, to see if anyone has added anything to my profiles and I then promptly thank them.

and I'm going to keep going, adding stuff and expanding peoples trees.

Well enough rambling for one morning....

Craig,  Thanks for the reminder regarding checking the family activity feed.  I went back and thanked everyone who had contributed, and I will add this to my daily routine.
Great Job Craig!!! I love doing that especially when you can make a connection to the tree. Also I am glad you posted this. It's good to be reminded to recognize people for their work.

I don't like making profiles ! I like doing the digging and sending hundreds &  thousands of pages of source & bio material to innocent profile managers and then pestering them to make profiles. I pester muchly goodly !

Researching is like settling down with a good book. Snacks, coffee, etc all snuggy on the sofa. Quick clicks copy-paste on the email thingy. I research muchly goodly.

Profile making requires typing and formatting and remembering to click SAVE and stuff. It's WORK ! !

GOOD profile making requires all that stuff.  I love creating profiles and adding to the tree, but all the copy/paste of sources, formatting, etc etc does bog a person down.  But I 'spose it wouldn't be good genealogy without it :-)

You are an awesome sauce digger by the way!!
Eddie just likes digging for buried treasure. We should really get him a miner's hat for Christmas. I'll pitch in for the picax.

Oh and Emma? I've found some profiles that may require Morgan Freeman style narration. =)
If you send me thousands of pages of stuff, I'm gonna pretend I didn't get the email......teee hee
I am the X-Treme Kong of pestering & annoying, Miss Natalie.

Pester annoy pester annoy !
I imagine those e-mails will be mysteriously deleted. Whoops. =P

So now Eddie is Wikitree's Loki. Got it.
One hundred and thirty percent agree with you Eddie. I see it as a large and small motor skill problem. I have great large motor skills. The details elude me.

Betty
Haha small motor skills ! ! I am six feet four inch, I have enormous fat long fingers very suitable for playing trumpet , molding sculpture clay and ripping off car doors but I wiki on an android tablet with a two inch by three inch on screen keyboard. One finger hits 3 letters at a time LOL.

My generation's brain looks like eggs apparently.....
Ok, thats my brain when I'm on a genealogy roll.

MMM that's good profile making. Not as bad as this. Sometimes when I fill in spots on my main tree on Ancestry I come across profiles here that are blank. No bios. If they are abandoned, I adopt them and make quick biographies based on the data. Lame, I know.

Probably a sign of OCD......

And hey we're all crazy. It's everyone else that has the problem.

Now, if you want to shatter a few brick walls of mine, go right ahead. I'll be waitin'. =)
by Chris Ferraiolo G2G6 Pilot (766k points)
I do that too.
It's so annoying when it isn't even a gedcom based profile. I fill in what I can. Though, I probably have some basic bios. I was introduced to an app here that makes basic biographies.

.....you read the daily obituaries in hopes of seeing someone has died that can help provide some proof (regarding a profile on Wikitree) of their extended family.  :D
