While exploring a Magna Carta Surety connection, I found a line going through John Booth, Sr., of Marshfield and Scituate.
This line is said to go through Sir John Booth, Booth-1040, apparently a member of the British aristocracy, as the alleged father of John Sr.
I got a copy of Malcolm Young’s article, “John Booth of Marshfield and Scituate, Massachusetts: Servant and Planter.” Young states “No family genealogy of this early settler has been published ...” Young does not indicate any parents for John Sr.
What is significant is that Young suggests he, John Sr, was brought to the colonies as a 10 year old servant from England by Josiah Winslow. Does it make sense that a son of a prominent family in England would be brought to the colonies as a servant?
The profile of the supposed father, Sir John, cites Richardson’s Royal Ancestry and Magna Carta references, but does not discuss why John Sr is believed to be a son, in fact the biography states that Sir John had only two sons; however the data portion lists four sons, without explanation of the difference. Another citation on Sr John’s profile to a website also states there were two sons.
Thus, it would seem that the alleged parents of John Booth Sr are not supported.
Does anyone have information supporting or not supporting this parentage?
