So we all got started on this crazy hobby somehow: My mom got tired of hearing about how her new husband had a "Civil War General that rode with Quantrell." Well of course that turned out to be crap and when she got to looking she found out that the person they were talking about was actually a farrier (person who puts horseshoes on horses) that rode with Pershing while chasing Poncho Villa. Then years later we did find a Civil War ancestor that was killed by Morgan's Raiders. He was deaf and did not hear the order to stop moving. Only casualty of the raid.

Interesting how genealogy can unearth the truth in family stories. :-) I know my Grandmother kept talking about Native American in her line but have yet to find it. :-/

Same here Charlotte. Although I did find an Ancestor that they say was Native American, but I have yet to find proof.

My father always used to tell us that when they were younger, he and my mother has struck gold in the Klondike, were paddling a canoe and got shot at with arrows by native Americans and that mum dropped the gold in the river when they were escaping. We didn't believe it because we lived in Leicestershire, England.

My grandfather wrote that his great great grandfather was a smuggler who ran rum into Cornwall! I've found no proof of it!
