I am currently going through people in my branches and I have found that William Terry born 1782 was a late officer of H.E.I.C in 1851

I have not yet found him in 1841, this is all I am missing from his profile. He married Susannah Bernard in 1811

Stephanie, If you put the profile number into the box under the question text box then it comes up as a link that people can click on to go directly to the profile.
Thank you Lynda certainly makes life easier I shall remember that for future questions
More people are likely to look if you make it easier for them.

I suspect the reason you cannot find him on the 1841 census is that he was abroad. Findmypast have an 1841 record for a William Terry in the army in Bombay which you might want to take a look at.

If I was to sign up for a month on find my past what is the best package to have for this sort of research please
Maybe someone else can advise you on that. I have an annual subscription so I have not looked at the monthly offers.
I have the annual as well, Stephanie. I would normally say to try the free searches, and use the 'PayAsYouGo' option - for someone that just wanted a months access. For a common name such as William Terry, however, I'm not sure if that would suffice. You could try the free search, and post in the G2G if you need something specific looked at (i.e. 1841 military record in Bombay). Then you could ask for the record to be emailed to you, or use PayAsYouGo credits to look at the actual record. I believe that you would need the Premium subscription if you decided to go with a subscription, so that you would have access to the England records.
Thank you Mindy and should I put that as  a separate post as I can not find his family either
If it is about William then best to keep it all in one post. If you are asking about his family and decide to start a new post then it would be a good idea to put in a link to this post so that people do not duplicate effort.
I shall leave it as it is then I think so not to confuse things but if someone could have a look to see what it says about the Bombay 1841 that would be great also as I have seen a christening for him in 1782, Fulham which is where he was born
The only 1782 christening for a William Terry in Fulham - that I see on FindMyPast - lists his parents as John and Elizabeth

"Middlesex baptisms," database, ''FindMyPast'' ([https://search.findmypast.com/record?id=gbprs%2fb%2f907242166%2f1 Middlesex baptisms on FindMyPast$] : accessed 4 March 2018), entry for William Terry, 1782; citing Middlesex Baptisms, Parish Baptisms, England UK. TEXT First name(s): William, Last name: Terry, Baptism year: 1782, Baptism date: 21 Jul 1782, Parish: Fulham, All Saints, Father's first name(s): John, Mother's first name(s): Elizabeth, Relationship: Son
That seems very likely to be my William Mindy thank you
