Identifying <ref> tags

I keep getting a notice that says "the biography has unmatched <ref> tags" every time I save certain profiles.  I have deleted anything that resembles <ref> in one of these profiles in an attempt to get rid of the notice, but it still keeps appearing.  What am I doing wrong, and how do I correct it?

Deleting <ref> tags is not a good idea -- that does damage to a profile by removing the formatted text that generates footnotes for source citations. Please just try to remember that creating a footnote requires placement of a <ref> tag before the footnote text and a </ref> tag after the footnote text, and every <ref> must be paired with a </ref>.

also <references/> needs to be immediately under the heading 'sources' as shown in the sidebar  on the edit screen.

"== Sources ==
< references />"

The lack of this will also cause a data error.

You have an unmatched <ref> in the final paragraph under Acknowledgements.

This video by Julie Ricketts is useful if you want to learn more about the use of referencing.

Bertram, I use Ctl-f to ‘find’ all ref tags. This helps you balance them in the bio, and find the remnants down in sources or acknowledgements.
