Question on DNA Matches From Germany

I am confused here and hoping someone can help me.  I just found 2 DNA matches on My Heritage and they are from Germany.  They mentioned a surname of Spath which is what my g granfather's family surname was but now anglicized to Spade.  I wrote to them and they speak limited English.  However, since they both show up she is 59.1 cm and he is 49.5 I concluded they were possibly brother and sister, but they are husband and wife.  I did the chromosome browser which shows their bars right on top of each other except on one chromosome.  I am trying to wrap my head around this before I respond back to him.  Any thoughts?

Also worth a look at the blog post Debbie Kennett wrote today about the new algorithms and chromosome map at MyHeritage:  https://cruwys.blogspot.com/2018/03/myheritage-dna-updates-announced-at.html.

Congratulations on discovering this match.

If the chromosome browser shows the two of them with very similar DNA, I'd say there's some mistake or confusion about the identification of these two DNA tests or about the relationship of these two testers in Germany. For example, maybe they thought you were asking about a different DNA test (sometimes one person manages multiple tests -- and I've had situations where a person got confused about which test I was asking about) or maybe they are parent and child.

It might be helpful to have a bilingual WikiTree member translate your message into German for you, so you can send your next message in both German and English -- to ensure that they understand you correctly. In your message, you could invite them to reply in both German and English so you can have a translation of their German message made -- in case their English message has a language error that causes confusion.

I definitely will contact him again to verify who the other person is next to him on the match list.  It might be his sister and not his wife.  It is quite the poser.
