Do you think that these two are twins?

I have searched but have yet to find definitive birth dates on Geraldine and Logan DeGraff Stanley.

I wanted to share this family photo of Geraldine Calderwood and her brother Logan Stanley Stanley-6078 with the community. Date: circa 1920.

Hard to say for certain, but if I had to guess, I'd place the boy at 2 turning 3... maybe recently turned 3. The girl I would say is closer to 20 mos. to 30 mos. but not more than 2 & 1/2. But that's purely a guess based on the apparent physical and emotional development differences between the two. Could possibly be twins, but if so the boy is the dominant twin and the girl likely had a rather unhealthy infancy. Just speculation though.

I see numerous US Public Records and a Social Security Death index that all put De's DOB as Jan. 15, 1918 haven't seen one for 1919 yet...

This is an adorable picture.  They really don't look the same age to me.  I'd definitely say the child on the right is older.  Thanks so much for sharing!

I cannot comment on the date of births, but the photo reminds me of photos of my sister and myself. We were born in the 60s and are 10 months apart. For two months of a year we are “the same age”.

Adorable picture!  All the records I found say he was b 15 Jan 1918.  All the records I found for Geraldine say she was b 7 Jul 1917.  So they are 6 months apart in age, and raised as "twins" because they were so close in age.

The more interesting question is who were the biological parents?  It seems unlikely that Austin could be the genetic mother of both, not impossible, but questionable if the birthdates are correct.  Autosomal DNA tests (Family Finder on FamilyTreeDNA.com) might indicate if Austin was the mother of both children.

If these two were born as you say, then there is no way they could be brother & sister.

One born 7th July 1917 does not leave mum enough time to conceive and give birth on the 15th January. A birth in 1917 meant that mum was in hospital or at least laid up for usually a week to 10 days. If we use the shortest rest time of 7 days, it leaves 185 days to get to 15th January.it gives 26 weeks + 4 days or 6 months.

This would give mum a gestation period of barely 6 months, and without today's technology the baby would not survive. that is why I think they are not brother & sister, Maybe they are cousins.
