A note about Ancestry sources...

We all know there are tons of trees on Ancestry with no real sources.  But there is GOLD there if you have the patience to look.   Take an ancestor, get the full list of trees, and check to see which ones have sources, and then check those sources.  The sources you find are likely to be old fashioned PRINT.  Books, letters, papers, family bibles.  Then of course the hard part of tracking down the source, finding the people who have them, and getting copies.  I have a list now and emails out for several sources.  Hopefully some of them come through!

I agree Wendy that there is a lot of good info on Ancestry.com.  An experienced researcher who can/will take the time to examine every clue can find gold. But, as you say, it takes patience. Unfortunately a lot of people don't have that.  They want the fastest and the easiest so they copy anything without sourcing it themselves.  Good luck in your hunting!

Or use the Ancestry search facility, where you can untick family trees and other stuff you don't want and just get the primary sources. I do this and I have found some fantastic sources.
