The Irish Roots Project co-ordinates the efforts of Wikitreers who have Irish ancestry and/or would like to improve the profiles of Irish people and the Irish diaspora on Wikitree.

There has been an explosion of free Irish genealogical records in the last few years and there has never been a better time to bust those brick walls and improve the Irish profiles on Wikitree.

If you would like to join the project we would love to have you.  Please post an answer below (including your research interests and what you would like to work on) and follow the instructions on the project page.

Hello, would like to participate. Born in Ireland and have ancestral links to County Mayo & County Antrim. Currently reside in County Down.

Many thanks, Lucy.
Please add me to the project. My maternal lineage surnames: Adair, Jamison, Kinnear, Little, and Martin. All were living in County Down in the early to mid-1800s. The came to the US in 1856 and settled in Oakland, Garrett, MD. I'd enjoy tracking back their ancestry, meeting cousins, sharing information, etc. Also, I wonder if 'my' Adair, Little, and Martin family are connected to those who came to America in the 1700s and eventually settled in Laurens County, SC. If so, they were neighbors of my paternal lineage (Bell, Bourland, Odell, and Prather).  Thanks so much!
Hi Lucy,  sorry for the delay in picking up your post.   Welcome to the Irish Roots Project.  Good luck with your research.
Hi Beth and welcome to the Irish Roots Project.   Good luck with your research in 2019.
thanks so much (again)!
Hello, my name is Jessica Moylan from the United States, I have ancestors that came from Ireland but I am not quite sure as to how many generations ago. If anyone has any information please let me know
Hi Jessica and welcome to WikiTree.    Please see the note I've posted on your profile.
Hi, I am Irish on my mum's side but one of my unties did a dna test and it said we could have an Irish ancestor who was alive about 1775 who possibly lived in Munster but I don't know who he is because my tree somewhat stops around 1833 at Emerson-2390(John Emerson) can someone please help me thanks:)
Hi Lochlan

I have an Emerson [[William Emerson|Emerson-3305]] in my family line (my fourth great grandfather) who born c. 1737 and lived in Waterford, Ireland (part of Munster). So far, I have only identified his three daughters. His youngest daughter Martha Emerson married Thomas Shearman and our family is descended from that line. My information is rather sketchy & haven't been able to take it further back. There were other Emersons in the Waterford and surrounding areas at this time.

Jeanette O'Hagan
Hi Jeanette,  thanks for this.   Are you interested in joining the Ireland Project ?

Lochlan - welcome to WikiTree.

Hi! My name is Nicki. I've always been interested in the Irish culture but only found out about my own Irish heritage a few years ago. My maternal grandfather has ancestors from Ireland and I'd really like to explore more about where they came from. I don't have a lot of information about where my family is from exactly in Ireland so I'd really like to see if I can discover that. Thanks!

I would be delighted to join.  I have extensive research into the children and grandchildren of Lytle Duncan (1804-1872) and his wife Sarah Jackson who spent from 1830 until their deaths in Ireland...more specifically Leitrim Co. and the towns of Bohey/Bohie and Dromahaire (where they are buried).  While most of his 10 children immigrated to Canada and the US, some remained in Ireland.  I do not have any history on Lytle that tells of where he was born, who his parents are, or when he was married.  Further research given the paucity of Irish Church of Ireland records in Leitrim has proven challenging.

Please talk to me, I'd love a bit of company when working through early Irish profiles.

Hi Valerie,   I'm sure we do.   Can you post this as a new G2G thread so that it's more visible to all WikiTreers.   Thanks for all the wonderful work you are doing on the Project.   You are a star.

I would like to join the Irish Roots project. I have Irish Ancestry, Sullivan and Brennan, and Scottish Ancestry (MCLean).

My everyday interests include traditional music, songs, instruments, but I think a good place to start would be to work on any aspect of famous poets. There are so many related possibilities, such as Irish Rebel songwriters. (I am also interested in Scotland). I would not be able to take on a Leadership role, as I am completely new to this endeavor.

Thank you!

Irish ancestors on my dad's side (Rose, Gardner, Walsh) migrating to Newfoundland and eventually into Boston, and from Ireland to Upper Canada or New York on my mom's side (Butler, Grimes, McKenna, Kelley, Nettle). All connections hit the brick wall before 1800. Would love to find some clues!

Can I join on the off chance that I MAY have Irish roots? My DNA tests seems to be pointing to an irish family (Ryan from Tipperary) that emigrated to NZ. I still have to wait for my mothers DNA test result to confirm which Irish brother in this family was her father, so there is no connection yet, but may I join the Irish Roots project in the meantme?

If I do still have to wait for the connection, I will understand. I can wait...

Hello,

My paternal grandparents immigrated to Canada from Belfast. Ancestral names include Miskimmin (Coleraine); Campbell (Derry); Morrison (Derry); Crawford (uncertain); Hamilton (Belfast); Pyper (Belfast); Moulds (Down); Campbell (Down).

I'm finding it difficult to go back earlier than 1800 but still hoping :)

In addition to my own heritage, I am also interested in mapping out Ulster Miskimmins and tracing them back to (what I suspect will be) Scotland.

Thanks!

Hi! My name is Amy and I've recently become interested in genealogy. My ancestors immigrated about 4 or 5 generations ago. I've found it's harder to find information the later they immigrated as the information ends at the 5th generation and is in Ireland. I've seen a huge sudden influx of Irish information on Familysearch.org. However, I am still stuck. My Irish ancestors are Crowleys, Brodericks (or Broders), and Hickeys.

My ancestor from Ireland was a Porter. His son, Frank Marion Porter, was born 1852 in Denver, Arapahoe, Colorado. I don't know his name, his original county or his wife's name. Frank indicated on the census that his heritage was Irish and I"m on the hunt to prove it. My DNA says Ireland is in my blood Would really appreciate any help.

Hi, Maria. I'm a quarter Irish on my father's side, and I have a little Irish on my mother's. I traced my paternal ancestors back to County Kildare and County Roscommon, while a cousin of mine (Keith) has already traced my maternal Irish ancestors to County Cork and County Galway. I'd love to help in any way I can.
