I am downloading GEDCOM files from Wikitree to produce an offline family tree report. Although I am merging multiple GEDCOMS, I will make my point with just two Wikitree generated GEDCOM files.
The first GEDCOM file was produced by taking the descendants of my first paternal ancestor to the United States. The second GEDCOM file was produced by taking the descendants of my wife's first paternal ancestor in the United States.
In my wife's GEDCOM file, Wikitree records her name as Shelley Rae /Bliss/. In my GEDCOM file, Wikitree records her name as Kate /Bliss/. Kate was born as Shelley Rae Bliss, adopted as Kate Peto, and married as Kate Thomson.
The problem with the way Wikitree is generating the GEDCOM files is that when using a program, such as GenMerge, the records of Kate /Bliss/ and Shelley Rae /Bliss/ are not recognized as the same person.
There needs to be consistency in the names output to the GEDCOM files if we are going to be able to merge the results after they are downloaded from Wikitree.
