Why does wikitree say there are no matches for this profile?

There are at least three profiles for him. Two of them are mine. I guess someone else has to propose a merge of them.

Well Howard, where are they?  There's no other profile by that name (with that spelling) in the data base, and there aren't any proposed merges for the one you linked to.  If you created two profiles for this person, and you manage both, you can merge them yourself.

Also, his first name may be spelled slightly different.

Because the dates differ. If you search for all Pate then sort by alphabetical order you will see the three. Ne doesn’t have the trailing h on his given name. You can merge the two you manage and propose a merge with the other...if the details and sources match.
