My Grandma Clara Hinderer Baur taught school at the Lutheran Apache Mission in AZ from 1913-1914. The missionaries gave the Apache Nation its first written alphabet which is still used.

Grandma was living in Watertown, SD and working for International Harvester at the time she was asked. The company gave Grandma time off so she could go. Her Dad, Paul Hinderer, and family were living in South Shore, SD.

I have several letters concerning Grandma and the Globe Apache Mission. This is the shortest of them and probably a good place to start.

Names which '''might''' be found in the letter.

  • Clara Hinderer
  • Paul Hinderer
  • Gustav Harders
  • Koch
  • Hillmer
  • Brockmann
  • Bergholz
  • Martin
  • Oehlert
  • Haase
  • Stern
  • Schroeder
  • Scherf
  • Prahl
  • Bergmann
  • Bleifernicht
  • Apache Mission
  • Synod
  • Globe, AZ
  • Bylas, AZ
  • Watertown, SD
  • Watertown, WI
  • Columbus, WI

Also, can you tell me what the date is? Thanks for any help transcribing/translating this!

- Jim
