Mis-assignment of arrival years from Rupp's list?

In Daniel Rupp's famous list of Swiss and German Settlers in Lancaster County PA from 1709 to 1730, the settler list in the appendix is subdivided by years:  1709, 1712, and 1719.  Is it assumed that settlers listed under the 1719 sub-heading arrived at various times between 1719 and 1730?  Sometimes I notice arrival years recorded as 1719, with no other supporting evidence that the settler had indeed reached North America by that date, and I imagine it would be a common mistake to use just the 1719 year lieu of other information.

I think you are talking about this list (link to is to relevant pages in archive.org version of book).

When Rupp's book was published, in 1876, his readers weren't as fussy about details as we are now.

I agree that the dates in the headings on that list should not be interpreted as dates of arrival. It seems to me that the best way to answer your question about what they do mean would be to find the unnamed records/lists that Rupp transcribed to create the appendix. I imagine these could be lists of people recorded as being in Lancaster (maybe as church members) as of a certain date or possibly between two dates (such as a list of people who joined a particular church during the ministry of a pastor who served from 1719 to 1730).

Since the Philadelphia arrival records begin in 1727 and this list ends in 1730, if there are people on this list who are also recorded as arrivals at Philadelphia, that could help with understanding the list.

Thanks good suggestions.  I've already found one person on the list who is documented to immigrate in 1732 via Philadelphia.  So the 1730 "cutoff" might be incorrect.
