How to recognise the VC [Victoria Cross]

The VC is the highest award of the United Kingdom honours system. It is awarded for gallantry "in the presence of the enemy" to members of the British armed forces.

I am developing a profile, the father in law of a cousin (6C2R), awarded the  VC

How do we acknowledge this award in Wikitree? The honour was awarded in the South African campaign of the 1870's, and personally presented by the Queen.

Whilst I have assigned the Notable badge, more should be attributed.

What is Colour Sargeant Booth? I never heard of it.

Well crap. I thought this was about the Viet Cong. It made me curious. Be careful with random abbreviations.
I find both comments appalling.

I would urge commentators to fully read the question &  comprehend before making any offensive remark.

The VC is no random abbreviation, rather the recognisation of British Gallantry!!
Now one cannot even ask a simple question. Exactly what is appalling / offensive about my question?

Edit: Never mind, I can now see that people from certain cultures are offended if you ask them about their culture. They are so arrogant that they expect everyone in the world to know everything about them, and when we don't they feel offended and acuses you of a lack of comprehension.

I was referring solely to the title "How to recognize the VC" which was a common question during the Vietnam War. It wasn't a disparagement against the Victoria Cross.

This is why we tend to avoid abbreviations on WikiTree.

VC Abbreviations list.

I thought the first, you clearly meant the 5th.

Clearly this is a misunderstanding so let's try and focus on the question itself.  Thanks!
I have no trouble recognizing the VC. Two bullet wounds in the left side and numerous shrapnel wounds in the arms and legs received "whilst" serving in Viet Nam '66-'67. Semper Fi!
Steve Tibbets, Viet Cong is what came immediately to MY mind, also!
Not just the British Armed Forces, it was awarded in all of the Common wealth countries as well.

Added  "Victoria Cross" to question to avoid any further confusion.

Thank you Dorothy.
In the initial draft of this question, the Victoria Cross was used. Uploading to G2G was denied as the "whole" exceeded the permitted use of six names. I amended Victoria Cross to VC!
Ron, there is a limit of six tags per question, but the question itself is not so limited. Based on my experience retagging questions in G2G, I estimate that  people pay at least as much attention to the words in the question as they do to the tags. Next time, spell out "Victoria Cross" in the question.    :-)
That's exactly what I did, Ellen, used "Victoria Cross" throughout the draft posting. Only when the limit of six names was flagged did I change to VC. I did not remove any tags.
That sounds like it might be an error message I haven't seen. Was it the restriction on tags that I mentioned, or was it a restriction on the number of hyperlinks in the question, or something else I haven't guessed?

Did the error message cause your entire question to be trashed, forcing you to start over? (That would be upsetting!!)
No the error message was not related to tags, rather the number of names within the posting, limited to six. My interpretation;  Victoria Cross, three times and the profile Anthony Clarke Booth, a total of 9.

No trashing of drafted posting. I just changed Victoria Cross three times to VC, reposted. No problem!
The Victoria Cross really is something special when it comes to honouring the brave.    We had one in our small avenue in Pinner, Charles Spackman who won it when taking a German Machine Gun Post in WW1.  The medal itself is made from the guns used in the Crimea War of 1855.    When home on leave in 1951 I was in uniform and so when passing Mr Spackman in the street I had to salute even though he was in civvies.   That is the form with holders of that rare decoration.    In the 1930's he made it into the news when a photograph of Charles Spackman was taken with him alongside the Prince of Wales - later King Edward VIII - albeit for a limited time.    The full report of Charles Spackman's action in winning the medal can also be found on the net
It's the same way with the Congressional Medal of Honor in the U.S.--honorees are to be saluted regardless of rank. That's neat that you actually got a chance to salute him!

Yes it was a good feeling in being able to salute him and his bravery.   You can see the photo and a shorter description of his action here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Spackman

yeah sorry - being a US citizen who grew up in the Vietnam era we just go to that in our heads - sorry to any brits for whom it is what was meant - acronyms can be tricky

VC is also the abbreviation used for the Viet Cong in the Vietnam War

A simple google search: Colour Sergeant, the equivalent of other services SSgt

A rank of non-commissioned officer in the Army and Royal Marines, above sergeant and below warrant officer.

Origin

With reference to the sergeant's responsibility for carrying one of the regiment's colours in a guard of honour.

you can add direct to [[Category: Victoria Cross]]

you can use the sticker, which displays an image of the medal on the profile AND adds to the category

{{Medal
|image = Mil_template_images.jpg
|Medal = Victoria Cross}}

you can add to the Wikitree Victoria Roll of Honor, see the instructions on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Medals_of_Honor/Honour_Victoria_Cross

It's OK I get the picture. Never show an interest in any profile. If you want to know something - Google it! Thank you for confirming the desired impersonal approach.
If this answer (specifically the bit about [[Category: Victoria Cross]]) isn't quite the answer you're looking for, I do suggest you edit your original question headline and text to spell out "Victoria Cross". While it is indeed a prestigious honor, only some people (especially Brits, of course!) are going to immediately understand that VC = Victoria Cross. Please remember that we are a global community here on WikiTree.

Good luck!
You might also look to see if this would be an accurate category for his unit:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:80th_Regiment_of_Foot
And one more:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Military_Decorations%2C_United_Kingdom

If you're aware of any other decorations he received, you might check this list and see if any are applicable. You might be able to add a few more categories to his profile from here.
