Free access to Ancestry Commonwealth records over easter

Free access to Commonwealth records on Ancestry now through till Monday.

I have already created a profile for someone of English descent who was born and living in India and broken a brick wall on a maiden name, after finding a marriage of someone from Derbyshire, England to an Australian woman in Sydney, as well as finding the Australian birth entry of their first child, after finding out about this free access, a couple of hours ago.

Would I be required to give them my credit card details just to be able to access this "free" weekend?

If yes then no thanks. That is not really free.

I have no idea about that, I am already a member with UK only access, so for me, it is fabulous because I can look at records I can't normally see. I used to have an unpaid membership only but can't remember if they asked for my financial details because it was about 5 years ago when I registered for free access originally. I don't recall having any problems though.
That's OK Gillian. I wouldn't join Ancestry even if they didnt ask for CC details. They cost far too much - especially foer all the errors they have in their records.

I have always been able to find everything I needed at Family search so why pay for something when it is pretty much available for free.

Also since I use Legacy software, (And the Legacy family tree software is now part of My Heritage) I now also have access to My Heritage index records. So if I was going to  pay for any services, I would probably choose My Heritage.
I think most of the problems arise from the way the site is used by people who don't know what they are doing. I have found some brilliant sources with original images. I had thought maybe some american users might be keen to use commonwealth records to search for english ancestors but from the two votes I have got for taking the time to notify people about these free sources, I shan't bother again.
I'm sorry to be so rude Gillian. Thank you for telling us.

However, I will also add that Ancestry have been advertisng this free weekend pretty extensively on TV this weekend. I have heard numerous ads staing that it is free for this weekend. But they do not mention that they must have your credit card details for you to actually log in and search.
