Challenge of the week: Improve orphaned profiles [closed]

Hi WikiTreers,

Will you join our "Data Doctors" Challenge of the week?

Once again, Aleš has come up with something to help us work together on a category of profiles that need our help. This time it's "orphans," i.e. profiles without Profile Managers.

Here is the list of orphaned profiles that could use some TLC.

Will you join us?

Every time you record a status update it will earn you a point. The member with the most points at 11:59pm EDT on Sunday night will get the Winner badge this week and the bragging rights. But we'll all benefit from a neater, cleaner shared tree.

If you're participating, please post here to let us know. It's nice to cheer each other on. Or post if you have any questions about how to participate.

Thanks for helping!

I may have asked this before, but is there a way to get a list of all orphaned profiles by state or country?
Emma, try using WikiTree+ by going down to where it says search and enter the name like New Zealand orphan. I just tried it and found 500 results. http://wikitree.sdms.si/default.htm
Thank you David :-)
You can also use country/state error lists and look in manager column for text Orphan. simple Find will do well.

Question, how does one correct an incorrect LNAB?
I’m in.

Mandy
Kelley, if you have a source showing the correct LNAB and it is an orphan profile, you need to first adopt the profile. Then change the LNAB (little tiny link next to the LNAB while in edit mode gets you to the LNAB change page). Then come back and add the source for your change to the profile.

Don't forget to remove yourself as manager when you are done (this is done in the privacy tab).
The family I am working on is an orphan family with the exception of the wife. Her profile, unknown Nancy, was added in 2010, but her profile appears to have been adopted, maybe in 2015 or 2016. I did send a message to the profile manager listing the sources I found as well as adding them to the profile in question. I assume now I just wait to hear from the profile manager.
Yes, Kelley, that is the best we can do in these cases. Thank you for sending the source along. This helps a lot.

Hi,

I'm probably being really thick here, but I can't work out exactly how to participate in this.

by Sue Carlson Dunn G2G6 (6.3k points)

click where it says  Space:DD_Challenge_Orphaned_Profiles_IV then on the new window click DBE ErrorList Challenge 41 Orphans) (Or go to the data doctor spreadsheet, click the week challenge tab at the bottom) Then on THAT window (or tab) pick an error you want to work on and a time frame and click THAT link. ,

This will bring you to a page with a list of profiles having te error you want to do. Go to the profile, fix the error, come back and click the status button and then fill in what you did. Then next profile.

I'd also like to participate in this challenge.  And I, too, have found relatives among the orphans and been able to adopt them.

Thanks!

I am in like Flynn, I enjoy reading some of these bios and like to tidy up with what I have learnt e.g. putting reference tags in after Sources  plus other tidbits.
