I just Discovered a possible French ancestor Susanna Adams born in Larosel. When I searched up Larosel I only came up with one place... France. All I know is that she was in Leiden by 1689-1690 when she married Abraham Crama. Further I know nothing. It's not much to go on if anything, and judging by the time period their wouldn't be much, but it's worth a try. I'll put a link below. I don't know if their is a France Project so if their is feel free to leave a comment below on the name.

Thank you!

One good clue as to Susanna Adams' birth place is that under opmerking (of special note), her getuigen (witness) is listed as Anna, her mother, whose place of residence seems to be listed as the Rijn - Waalse Kerk. The Walloon church was Calvinistic and French speaking, originating in the French speaking part of what is now Belgium.  Susanna's family would most likely have been among the Huguenots fleeing France after the Edict of Fontainbleau in 1685.  See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huguenots for more details on the Huguenots and the persecution against them.  The Netherlands took in a huge number of religious refugees, Huguenots in particular since many Dutch people were also Calvinists.

The cited record is the bann. The actual marriage ceremony was on 29 January 1692 in the Walloon Vrouwekerk:

"Netherlands, Zuid-Holland Province, Church Records, 1076-1916," images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9QJ-DLCV?cc=2037907&wc=SMML-92S%3A1292925401%2C345829002%2C345847701 : 21 August 2014), Waals Hervormde > Leiden > Trouwen 1604-1811 > image 517 of 772; Rijksarchiefdienst Nederlands, Zuid-Holland (Netherlands National Archives, Zuid-Holland).

Note that Susanna's place of origin is recorded as "la Rochelle". The bann record being Dutch and the marriage record French I would say La Rochelle is more reliable than Larosel, the latter probably being the Dutch phonetic equivalent.

I was wondering about that.  There is a tiny village along the coast in Normandy named La Rosel, but it doesn't seem as likely as La Rochelle, further south on the coast.  La Rochelle was a major seat of Calvinism, and most Protestants were expelled throughout the 1600's.  Many founded cities in America; others were likely to flee north to the Netherlands.  See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Rochelle if you're interested in the history of it.

I don't know if you have already seen this:

Thank you, this does give a clearer layout of the overall family!
In Regard: During that period of time if she was French, (French or French Netherlands) she may have kept her given name and not changed her name to her husband's upon marriage. Her children would receive her husband's given name.

C'est Bon ..
Thank you, I'll change that right away!
The same applies to Dutch women, they generally keep their maiden names.

Keen thank you for the info Abm van Helsdingen  !

There was a family ADAM in La Rochelle and they were Protestants.

A Marie ADAM was married to Claude CHAMBERT. Their son Isaac CHAMBERT got married in 1674 (frame 88) in La Rochelle, Saint-Sauveur parish

The records of La Rochelle are online (free access). Choose

Commune : La Rochelle

Collection  : Collection du greffe

Type de registre :  Pastoral

and then click on Rechercher (Search). Almost all the Protestant registers available  will be listed. There are a few more if you choose Collection communale instead of Collection du greffe.
