Ships Passenger lists - just the head of family name?

Hello everyone!

I am searching for my Riegle/Riegel family and I found a Johan Adam 'Regal" that came over on the ship "Edinburgh" August 13, 1750 - I am relatively sure this is my family, but I need to know the names of the wife and children that were with him. Are only the heads of household the only names in the passenger records? How can I link him to the children I believe are to be his? In other words, if I can view the entire family that came with him, it would prove I am a direct descendant.

Thanks for your time!
Jennifer

In a couple of cases with my ancestors, the father came first and got
established and the family followed when he had home and passage money accumulated.
Thanks!! I have looked for other family earlier and later -with no luck. Here is the site that I find him on - and it looks like that there are only men listed...

Thoughts, anyone?

Thanks again!
Jen
The migrant you asked about would have arrived at the port of Philadelphia during a period when men who were not British subjects were asked to sign some sort of pledge of allegiance to the British government upon arrival. Their names are the ones recorded on lists of arrivals. Occasionally I've noticed a woman's name on a Philadelphia ship list, but their inclusion is unusual.

Every ship manifest I've seen has the whole family listed.  They SHOULD have all family listed since they need to account for everyone who is on the ship

This would be true for any immigration after 1820 in the US, but not before.

I would look to see if the wife and children travelled later. Everyone should be listed individually if they were all travelling together.
