How do I get someone's dna test information to enter it?

We have a family member who did their dna and through their results have found they are related to my direct line. I would love to figure out where he belongs as he was adopted. Is there a way I can get him to give me something from his test that I can enter? I am hoping this is a possibility to help get him closer to his spot in our family.

Also, if there is a way, how do I go about putting it onto his profile so it stretches through the tree?

Thanks in Advance,

Lisa

Lisa,

The information you need from the person is the type of test that was done (Autosomal, YDNA etc), the name of the testing company, the Kit number or id for the test

The first thing you would need to do is create a WikiTree profile for the person. Once you have done that
Go to their profile
Select "DNA" under the menu tab that has their WikiTree ID on top
Choose "DNA Tests"
Select the testing company (or name of  test) from the pull-down menu
Enter the requested information
Wait approximately 24 hours for the info to be propagated up the ancestor list

You can read more about it here

Thank you so much. I have a profile for the person made already. I just did not know what I needed to be able to set that up. I feel confident I can do that now.

You would definitely need the permission of the individual involved. There is no way you can "get him to give you" the DNA test results. If he agrees to give you the results and agrees they can be posted on his profile, then you may do so.

Yes, he has said he would give me the information I need. I just need to know what it is I need from him and how to do it when I have it.

I would never try to do it without someone's permission.
If you have his permission, the only thing you need is the name of the test and where he had it done. That is all that can be posted on WikiTree. You would add that test information to his profile in the same way you add DNA test information to your profile.
That is what I am needing. What info from the DNA is it that I need to put in? I have not yet done mine but another family member had theirs done and that is how they know they connect. I have not entered any in. What do I need and how do I go about doing it? is it a series of numbers? letters? what gets entered?

What is far more useful than just entering a DNA test name is to load the test data into GEDmatch.  If you only indicate a test name, it's just interesting information, like telling people you have taken an SAT test or a driving test.  If you have a GEDmatch ID, assigned by them to your uploaded DNA kit, now you can do comparisons and find matches across all testing companies.  You don't have to use it, but GEDmatch is what makes the WikiTree DNA support so powerful and helpful.

To use GEDmatch, you will need more of his involvement though, with his permission of course, as Shirley said.  For more information on GEDmatch and integrating with WikiTree, see Help:GEDMatch and Connecting DNA Test Results to WikiTree Profiles.
