How can someone propose a merge and then complete it 3 days later without either manager's approval?

How did Karen (Rollet) Lorenz complete a merge of Martin-35110 and Martin-25919 after only 3 days without approval of myself or Roy Case?

I have to wait 30 days when the managers do not approve. There seems to be a possibility that they were the same person but I was far from convinced.

Hi Richard, the merge shouldn't have happened without your permission. Thanks for reporting this.

A non-profile manager or trusted list member can complete a default approved merge if both profiles are Open privacy.

The merge must be completed by one of the profile managers or someone on the trusted list of one of those profiles if both the profiles are Public privacy setting, not Open - which results in a "Permission Denied" error.

The merge in the question is open privacy but had not been default approved. There are now two profile managers with no other people on the trusted list.

It appears from the profile of the person who completed the merge she might be an arborist. Perhaps that it what allows the merge to go through without the pm approval.
No, Karen, I'm an arborist, and I have to wait for either both PMs to approve, or 30 days for default approval just like everyone else.

Richard, have you tried asking Karen (the one who completed the merge)?
Nan, thank you for that information.  I was curious because the same thing happened last year with a profile that I manage.  I never did get an answer from the person who completed the merge, nor anyone else here for that matter.

The person who completed the merge in my case, also in 3 days, was not a pm nor on the trusted list for either profile.  There must be something in the system that allows for certain people to be able to circumvent the 30 day default process. It would be interesting to learn who has that ability and when they are allowed to complete a merge in this manner.
Yes, it would, Karen. And I don't understand why the PMs wouldn't be given a chance to review the merge; they were both active, in this case.

I have recently found that when I was going to propose a merge it just goes straight into the merge completion phase.

It happened about 4 or 5 times and it seems to be profiles that are pre-1700

None of these profiles even had a merge request and all of them had Profile Managers and I was not on the Trusted list.

Unfortunately I did not keep track of these profile numbers.

Often that happens if at least one of the profiles is an Orphan.
That's very odd. It seems it must be some kind of glitch; we should probably track these, so that someone can look into it. At least in the case that started this thread, there was already a merge request, even if it was only a few days old.
Nan, I will note the profiles when I come across it again, as I am sure it's a glitch.
If you guys have this happen again can you message me with the profile id and any details you remember?

Odd. I just received a merge completed email, that was also completed by someone, not the PM or on the trusted list, and I had proposed the merge just hours before.  I see that the person that completed it is a Leader, so maybe that gives special powers for completing merges. Strange.

Leaders can adopt open profiles and complete merges in support of a project, but, the person that completed the merge was not a leader.
Will do. Thanks Robin

Jeanne Martin that I merged  had the same husband, same time frame, same city in France so I proposed the merge.    I'm sure I merged it from the  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:BrowseMatches screen for matches I proposed.  It must have shown up as "You can complete this merge after a final comparison" or I wouldn't have tried to merge them.  It is not uncommon for  some of the merges to be approved quickly from when I propose them.  Apparently this one didn't get approved but the  complete this merge after a final comparison may have shown up anyway.  I do not really know.  That was two days ago and I have done a lot on Wikitree since then.  I am an arborist, but I don't think that gives me any special abilities.  I do not remember anything odd about the merge.  I'm sorry that I cannot be of any more help. And I apologize if the merge causes more issues for the two profile managers.

My suggestion is (if possible) to log the proposed merges and approved merges, as well as the final merge (which is already done) into the changes log on the profiles and merge the changes from both profiles into the merged change log.  That would at the very least allow the leaders to track what  happens since apparently from the G2G thread, this has happened before.
