In trying to get familiar with WikiTree, I uploaded a GENDOM file and resolved the comparisons (wishing the algorithm was more sophisticated), and then did an Add on one person's profile. Much to my surprise, it ended up including the marriage information for his parents, not just for him. In his Biography section, I see headings "Born", "Ancestors of Interest", "Event: Anecdote", "File", and "Marriage". In addition to the date, place and comments from my file about the wedding and the name of the spouse, the first paragraph also includes the names of the children. Is that really what WikiTree is supposed to show on a marriage "record"? Then under marriage there is a second paragraph with "Husband", the name of the profile person's father, "Wife", the name of the person's mother, "Child", the name of the person's sister, "Child", the name of the person, "Marriage", and the date and place and memo for the marriage of the profile person's parents. Why is this included?
I somewhat understand the GEDCOM structure, and it looks like it is including family information for anything that includes a person as a family member in any role, so I guess what I'm really wondering if it always does this on purpose, and what is the logic behind making that choice. It seems confusing to me. If I'm looking at a profile for "John", a section with "husband" and "wife" that are not his husband and wife seems terribly confusing. I can see the point of including the list of children, but I would expect it to be in a separate section, not "Marriage".
Or is this just happening to me? I created my GEDCOM from The Master Genealogist. What I see in the file seems to make sense and looks correct, but maybe it has a different setup that is causing this???
thanks, Lynn
