Saving Edit Changes

Ok, quick question... A few weeks ago I uploaded a GED from Ancestry.com & I went through the whole summary & saved new people & matched people who were already in here. Since then I have gone back into my Ancestry site & made a bunch of changes to alot of people. Adding & removing hints, and in general cleaning up my file.

I downloaded the new GED & uploaded it here. Now I want to match & compare & save any of the new changes. However, I am finding that if I select the option to use the new Auto Edit option for the biography part, it basically just adds everything old & new, which many times creates the info twice.

My question is, on the biography/source part of the editing, how can I tell which is the new information that I am importing & make sure that is all that shows up instead of both the old information & the new information.

Help with this will be GREATLY appreciated, as I really want to make sure the changes I am making keep our family member profiles clean & dont have repetitive information, & make sure I keep the newest information.

The easiest and most efficient way is going to be make updates to each profile individually. The GEDCOMpare tool is great as a starting point for taking off in WikiTree, but updates to profiles are easier and much cleaner without the use of GEDCOM files.

As an example, I looked through your public tree and found your father. If you look at his Profile Page (not in edit mode), you will notice that the Source section is "a nightmare" to understand. This is very common with Ancestry imports and eventually, you will want all of this cleaned up.

What you should strive for, as an example, is a sourced and well-written profile - similar to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Daly-434.

I think you really just have to work through them one profile at a time. You can look at the 'Changes' tab and see what was original, and what is new. For example Nancy Bivens - everything in red is different. You can either print this out, or open it in another window.
